In Heartstopper, music plays an important role in telling Nick and Charlie's love story. Who can forget their dreamy snowy day on beabadoobee's "Dance With Me" (voted Best Musical Moment at the MTV Movie & TV Awards)? Or the Toby Green remix of Maggie Rogers' "Alaska" that played before the couple's first kiss?
In an interview with Attitude last spring, Heartstopper executive producers and musical directors Patrick Walters and Matt Biffa talked about the decision to source the show's soundtrack from primarily LGBTQ+ artists. Problems sourcing bedroom pop out there. “It’s so accessible that any kid with a laptop and an idea can make something like this,” Biffa explains.
To put together a playlist that the characters could actually listen to, the "Heartstopper" creative team also consulted with the show's young stars. “We wanted to show the real life of British teenagers, and a big part of that was music,” Walters said. “We can send playlists to young teen actors and ask them, ‘Do you like these songs?’ It’s so helpful.”
Several artists expressed their gratitude for being included on the Heartstopper soundtrack. For example, after its first season helped "Baby Queen" reach a wider audience than ever before, the "Colours of You" singer tells Elite Daily it's "the most amazing thing that's ever happened in her career" The most amazing thing”.
Luckily for fans, there are even more baby queens in "Heartstoppers" season 2, including Taylor Swift, Teigen, Sarah, and more. Want to add to your playlist? Here's an episode-by-episode recap of all the songs from Heartstopper Season 2.
