Gillian Anderson has revealed more details about her vaginal dress. The actor, who currently stars in Netflix's Scoop , made a big impression at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, walking the red carpet in a custom-made Gabriella Hearst gown. Full of unforgettable vagina-inspired embroidery.
She told "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that she didn't expect the ivory dress to cause "such a stir" April 3rd. "It was an idea, it happened. It manifested itself."
While Colbert praised the gown's "beautiful embroidery," he noted that it "must have taken a long time" to make. Anderson responded: "Forever. Many, many, many hours, many vaginas — vulvas." (She told Extra the embroidery took 150 hours.)
She has previously spoken about her decision to wear the dress, telling Deadline there were "a lot of reasons." She also called it "on-brand" given her role as sex therapist Dr. Jean Milburn in Netflix's Sex Education .
In an interview with British Vogue , she talked about the dress, which is a collaboration between designer Gabriela Hearst and Anderson's beverage brand G-spot. "The slogan of my brand G-Spot is 'Happiness First,' and I wanted to bring that element into the design," she told the magazine. “I’m so glad Gabriella is up to the challenge!”
Hearst also shared details of the "extremely chic" gown on Instagram. "Gillian wears an ivory wool silk structured cady bustier gown with custom embroidery," she wrote in the caption. "Made entirely in New York City, the embroidery is created in the Garment District and the gowns are assembled in the in-house studio."
