With historic nominations and highly-anticipated performances, the 2024 Oscars offered plenty of steamy moments for fans at home.
The March 10 awards show kicked off with host Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue — mentioning the Bappenheimer phenomenon, of course — and quickly moved on to the Best Supporting Actress award, which went to Da Vin Joy Randolph ( "The Old Guard" ).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show announced each acting nominee with the help of a former winner, a format last used at the 2009 ceremony.
Fifteen years later, Mary Steenburgen, Lupita Nyong'o, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rita Moreno and Regina King revived the style. Some domestic viewers liked the change, with one fan on X (formerly Twitter) saying it made them cry and another deciding to tell their kids "this is the time for the Avengers to step up and save the world."
However, one audience member expressed concern that the format, which consisted of five short speeches from the 2024 nominees, would be "too much" for the already lengthy ceremony.
Paul Giamatti's timely tears
Paul Giamatti had the perfect reaction to his Holdovers co-star's big win, and fans were quick to notice his very cinematic teardrop. "Isn't there anything a man can't do?" one user wondered, while some called for tears themselves to win an Oscar. (Is the 11th hour too late for nomination?)
All the love to Barbie and Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish performs "What Am I Born For?" ” Barbie ’s performance earned a standing ovation from Oscar viewers and domestic audiences, who called the show of support “so worth it.”
Another viewer wrote: "That performance brought tears to my eyes and just being on the small screen."
When Eilish saw what was happening, she said "Wow" in surprise and hugged her brother and collaborator Finneas. Given the warm reception the song received last summer, it's no surprise that its performance stirred emotions in everyone from movie actors to Ariana Grande.
John Cena's streaking moment
Viewers were waiting for the moment when John Cena nearly ran naked. After Kimmel mentioned the 1974 Oscar streaking incident, he encouraged Cena to reenact the incident, but the wrestler and actor got cold feet and used the Oscar envelope for the sake of modesty. Cena then shamelessly announced that he had won the award for Best Costume Design.

Fans loved seeing Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling present awards together, and while the actors initially said there was no cinematic competition between their films, they quickly began insulting each other's projects.
"I kind of understand why they call it 'Barbenheimer' and not 'Oppenbarbie,'" Gosling said. "You guys are at the tail end of this thing because you're riding Barbie in a tuxedo all summer long."
"Thanks Ken for explaining this to me, okay? "I need to draw abs to get nominated. "You wouldn't see Robert Downey Jr. do that," Blunt replied.
"Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling need to host next year's Oscars," one viewer suggested. Many more expressed their support for the Kimmels, who are regular hosts, and declared it one of their favorite moments of the night.
Twins reunited
Viewers are looking forward to the reunion of twin co-stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito at the 2024 awards show. Some even called for a Twins sequel, with one fan calling it "the best sequence of the night."

Perhaps the most popular attendee at this year's Oscars was Macy the dog from Anatomy of Autumn . Although The Hollywood Reporter initially said Messi was expected to miss the ceremony, the scene-stealing border collie proved to be a very polite spectator, even applauding at one point.
Audiences not only loved the clip of Messi clapping (some called it a top ten Oscar moment), but also Ryan Gosling's excited reaction to the dog. The Barbie star previously had a sweet interaction with the dog at the Oscars luncheon.
"He's never been more relatable," one Gosling viewer wrote, while another wondered who was more charming: the man or the dog?
