Gwyneth Paltrow explains why she gave up acting career

Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about her career in Hollywood. Paltrow recently spoke to People magazine about her decision to stop acting full-time, revealing that the birth of her daughter Apple inspired her to do so.

"It's kind of ironic because I really left acting when Apple was born," Paltrow shared. "The last time I was in every scene in the movie was when I was pregnant with her."

Paltrow went on to explain that after giving birth to her daughter in 2004, "everything felt redefined," adding: "I thought, 'I'm not sure I want to do this as a career. I definitely don't want to... I’m not going to be gone for months on end.”

Apple has grown up

In the October 2023 Bustle Beauty Issue, Paltrow opened up about being a mom to 19-year-old Apple, who recently started college.

"It's so fun to have a daughter this age, especially because she's so interested in clothes and skin and things like that," she explained. "She's more girly than me. She's really good at makeup and loves it."

Paltrow also revealed to Bustle that she's learned new beauty tips from Apple, a big fan of her mother's lifestyle company, Goop.

"We FaceTimed yesterday and she told me how she uses all the Goop products," Paltrow continued. "I never pushed for anything, but as time went on, she got used to it, so I was grinning from ear to ear."

Paltrow welcomed daughter Apple with ex-husband Chris Martin in May 2004, a year after she married the Coldplay frontman. In 2006, Paltrow and Martin welcomed their second child, son Moses Bruce Anthony Martin.

Gwyneth may return to acting

While Paltrow has no plans to return to acting anytime soon, she recently revealed that a former Marvel co-star might convince her to do so one day.

"It's hard for me to do any good acting right now just because of my job," the Oscar winner revealed in a Nov. 6 interview with Entertainment Tonight . "But I think Robert Downey Jr. can probably always get me back. Come."

However, it quickly became clear how much she could contribute to this potential role. "You know, in a way," she added jokingly.
