Elsa Hosk impersonates Marilyn Monroe on Cannes red carpet

Elsa Hosk joined a host of celebrities in the south of France to attend the 77th Cannes Film Festival this week. The Swedish model's two red carpet looks exuded Old Hollywood glamor from two completely different eras.

With a career spanning over 20 years as a model, Hosk creates high fashion looks with ease and has developed a following among Gen Z for her excellent taste. In 2022, she parlayed this expertise into her own ready-to-wear brand, Helsa, which focuses on elevated basics inspired by Scandinavian street style. The former Victoria's Secret Angel also just teamed up with Heavy Manners, a swimwear brand known for its bold patterns, to launch a line of vintage-inspired suits that are available now.

At Cannes, she put her talents to good use, creating sleek, minimalist looks rooted in current trends and providing double the sartorial inspiration in the process.

Modern Marilyn Monroe

On May 22, Hosk made a stunning appearance in an old Hollywood look. She attended the premiere of The Count of Monte Cristo in a black and white Prabal Gurung gown that looked right at home in a 1950s Marilyn Monroe gown. The silk taffeta design featured structured white fabric along the bust, which draped behind her to form a billowing train.

Hosk paired the elegant gown with black sandals and equally timeless Tiffany jewelry, including a dazzling diamond necklace and sparkling earrings.

Her glamour—best described as "bombshell meets beauty queen"—fits into the overall Old Hollywood aesthetic. She wore bold ruby lipstick, cat-eye liner, shimmery bronzer and bright red nails. Her hair was styled into loose curls that fell down her back and accentuated the front of her dramatic gown.

Hosk's '60s-chic Saint Laurent look

The day before, at the premiere of "Partenope ," Hosk donned another vintage look. Her black halterneck column gown - courtesy of Saint Laurent - featured a racy backless design with delicate spaghetti straps.

While the sheer dress was fairly simple compared to the over-the-top looks we're used to seeing at Cannes events (long trains, frilly gowns, bright colors, etc.), it didn't disappoint. The gown's classic silhouette exuded sophistication and made Hosk look absolutely statuesque.

The model once again accessorized with black strappy sandals and metallic jewelry from Tiffany & Co., adding some dimension to the otherwise understated look. Her bulk baubles include Jean Schlumberger bow tie necklaces, bracelets and round cord bracelets. She wore Elsa Peretti clips and gold bracelets in her ears.

On the beauty front, the model opted for a '60s-inspired aesthetic, wearing her hair in a half-updo for the decade's signature "beehive" look, which felt very Brigitte Bardot-esque. She rimmed her eyes with thick black eyeshadow and soft pink lipstick, adding an edgy yet romantic finishing touch to the look.

In just two days, Hosk has pulled off two completely different red carpet looks from two completely different decades, and it's impossible to decide which one reigns supreme. I must admit, I was touched.
