Cara Delevingne opens up about her sobriety journey

Cara Delevingne talks about her journey to sobriety. During an interview with Variety at the Met Gala on May 6, the model and actress shared a message of encouragement for anyone walking a similar path, saying, "You're not alone."

"If I can do it, anyone can," she said. "But you need to be as communicative and honest as possible, especially with yourself." Speaking on the red carpet, Delevingne added that she felt it was important for her as a public figure to speak openly about sobriety.

"I think that's what I've always done in this industry," she continued. "Whether it's expressing anxiety, depression, recovery or anything. ... You should talk to people about your struggles because living in this world is not perfect. No one is perfect. So honestly, that's what I can do The bare minimum.”

Delevingne recently discussed her sobriety in an interview with Vogue in April 2023, saying she had committed to a 12-step treatment program. "It's heartbreaking because I thought I was happy," she said of her lifestyle beforehand. “Sometimes you need a reality check.”

In an interview with the magazine, she outlined how well the 12-step program worked for her, despite previously wanting to take a "quick fix" approach to staying sober.

“I never really understood the essence, the deeper stuff,” she added. "This time I realized that 12-step treatment was the best thing and not to be ashamed of it. ... The opposite of addiction is connection, and I definitely found that in 12-step."
