After last season's bittersweet finale, which saw Cami (Jeremy Allen White) and company's eponymous restaurant open but some relationships faltered, fans have been thinking and theorizing about the next installment. Will Donna (Jamie Lee Curtis) return? What about the other scene-stealing guest stars? Will Cami find a way to reconcile his professional ambitions and personal life?
There are several hints about a third season. For example, White told Variety that now that the restaurant is built, there will be more cooking and a "well-functioning kitchen atmosphere." Family funeral?
On March 11, Reddit user u/BobDucca shared a photo of The Bear cast outside a Chicago-area church. The user noted that it appeared to be a funeral scene because everyone was wearing black clothing.
But whose funeral will they attend? Bears fans did meet several new characters last season, including the Berzato family. However, some users commented that the most likely person is Marcus' mother, whom viewers got to know more about in season two.
You may remember that seven weeks before "The Bear" opened, Marcus (Lionel Boyce) traveled to Denmark to learn pastry from pastry chef Luca (Will Poulter), but he Worry about leaving your terminally ill mother at home. He even confides in Sydney (Ayo Adebiri) that he's been having nightmares about her nurse, Christy, calling to tell him she's passed away.
Sadly, this nightmare may come true in the final moments of season two. As Marcus contemplates Bear's busy opening night, he doesn't notice the several missed calls and text messages from Christie on his phone. "Where are you? Please call me," she wrote. This sense of urgency seemed to indicate that his mother had fallen into a slump.
Prediction Bears Season 3
Unlike other televised funerals, this potential scenario won't necessarily shock bear fans. As one user said, "We know/assume Marcus's mom died, so maybe it's not a huge spoiler." Others commented with their own support for this theory — pointing out things like Marcus Clues such as the presence of friend Chester or Sydney's presence (as well as Natalie's hair color) confirm that this scene is not a flashback.
Boyce recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the Emmy Awards about the fate of his character's mother. When asked what impact the cliffhanger in season three might have on Marcus, he said he had to "plead to the fifth man" because he "knows something about his character's journey."
