Taylor Swift's tortured poet department has made history 10 times

Taylor Swift is reaching new heights (pun intended) on her Eras tour, as evidenced by the 13 records she's broken so far. So it's no surprise that her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, has enjoyed similar success, and it's likely to be added to her already long playlist.

Even before "Tortured Poets" is released on April 19, the album has already broken Spotify records, suggesting it will reach numbers Swift has never seen before. This was proven on launch day, when it broke multiple streaming records across all platforms.

By the end of the first week, even Swift was speechless, as she made clear on X (formerly Twitter). "What do you mean?" she wrote in response to the album's sales. After learning of her other record on the Billboard Hot 100, she declared: "You guys have outdone yourselves, it's unbelievable."

These are the records Swift has broken so far with Tormented Poet .

Prior to its release, "The Tortured Poets Department" became the most pre-stored album in Spotify history. This just sets the stage for Swift's album to make history on Spotify and other streaming platforms.

The most played album in a single day

The day after Tortured Poets was released, Spotify named it the most played album in a single day. Not only did Swift break her own record for "Midnights" to be streamed over 200 million times, but "Tortured Poets" became the first album to be streamed over 300 million times in a single day. Swift also broke the same record on Amazon Music and became the most streamed pop album on Apple Music.

Global streaming records

Tortured Poet was a huge hit globally and in the U.S., and Swift took the Eras tour to South America, Asia, Australia and Europe, playing her first shows in several countries. The album was streamed a staggering 1.76 billion times worldwide in its first week, the largest week of global streams since Billboard began charting on the Global 200.

Second largest sales week in history

A week later, "Tortured Poets" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 as expected, but broke multiple records in the process. Swift had the second-biggest album sales week of all time with 2.61 million albums sold, behind only Adele's 25 . About 859,000 of those were vinyl records, making it the best-selling week for vinyl records in the modern era.

Overcome the top 14

On the Billboard Hot 100, Swift becomes the first artist to occupy the top 14 spots on the chart, with "Fortnight," her collaboration with Post Malone, taking the No. 1 spot name. She previously dominated the top ten following the release of "Midnights," but she fittingly extended her reign to 14 days, which is exactly the number of days in two weeks.

Female artist with the most charts

In addition to dominating the top 14, all 31 songs from "The Tortured Poets Department" and its surprise second part, "The Anthology ," were on the Hot 100. With her 2019 hit "Cruel Summer" still charting, Swift has set a record for charting at the same time. A female artist charted with 32 songs and became the first woman to have more than 50 top ten songs in her career.
