"Archer" TV series looks a lot like the 2007 movie

USA Network's new drama series "Archer," premiering Tuesday night, follows former Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillippe) as he attempts to clear his name after being framed for murder. The show is based on the 2007 film of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg, which was adapted from Stephen Hunter's novel "Point of Impact." When you compare the Shooters TV series to the movie, you'll find that they are very similar - or so it seems. According to Deadline, this shouldn't be a big surprise since both the TV series and the movie are based on the same novel , and Wahlberg is involved with the TV series as an executive producer.

Wahlberg played Swagger in the 2007 film, which also starred Danny Glover, Michael Peña and Kate Mara. Phillip takes over the role in the new TV series, alongside Cynthia Addai Robinson, Omar Epps and Eddie McClintock. According to TV Guide , "Archer" was originally scheduled to premiere on television this summer, but the premiere was delayed due to several mass shootings at the time. The 2007 film isn't just about sniper rifle shooting, it's a thriller in which Wahlberg's character makes a swaggering escape and uses his resourcefulness to clear his name.

In "The 2007 Movie": As I said above, Wahlberg plays Swagger, a former sniper expert who prefers to live in isolation.

On the 2016 TV show: Phillippe, who plays a former sniper, told The New York Times that Wahlberg hand-picked him to play the role. "The first thing Mark Wahlberg said to me was, 'I love this role and you were my first choice,'" Phillippe told the paper. "I thought it was so endearing. From that point on, his attitude was 'make it your own.' And then I really understood what it could do." "

plot

In the 2007 movie: Swagger lives in isolation until he is recruited by Colonel Isaac Johnson (Glover) to help stop an assassination attempt on the president. But it was a complete conspiracy - another politician was killed and Swagger became the prime suspect. The former military sniper now needs to fight to clear his name and expose the real killer.

On TV 2016: The series trailer shows the new Swagger also talks about a presidential assassination attempt. The New York Post reports that Johnson (Epps) was his former commander and recruited Swagger to thwart an assassination attempt on the president. However, according to a review in Variety , Philip's swagger was framed for "a crime he didn't commit" — that's the plural of crimes — and he must work to clear his name.

FBI agent

In the 2007 film: Swagger teams up with rookie agent Nick Memphis (Pena) while on the run.

According to Variety , in the 2016 TV show: Swagger teams up with Agent Nadine Memphis (Addai-Robinson) — yes, this time the FBI agent is a woman.

love interest

In the 2007 film: Swagger falls in love with Sarah Finn (Mara), the widow of his late Marine Corps friend.

On TV in 2016: According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram , Swagger is married to a woman named Julie (Shantelle VanSanten) with whom he has a young daughter. According to Variety , she will work to help clear his name after he was framed.

opponent

In the 2007 film: Corrupt Senator Charles Meacham (Ned Beatty) and Johnson turn against Swagger for corporate oil interests.

In "TV 2016: It's Not Completely Clear," Variety noted that Johnson (Epps) was once again involved in an assassination attempt and that there was a "conspiracy about Russian interference in world affairs." According to an interview with DSTV, Sean Cameron Michael will play the Russian diplomat Grigory Krukov in the drama, but it was not revealed whether he will be the antagonist or Swagger's ally in the drama.

"In the beginning, Isaac seems like the bad guy, but then they have to come together to unravel some of the things that happened this season," Epps told the New York Post . "It's a really dangerous catfight. The mouse game, that’s the fun part of it.”

How long has Swagger been on the run?

In the 2007 movie: Swagger is able to defeat those who oppose him in the span of a feature film.

The Star-Telegram reports that The 2016 TV Show is about to air its 10th episode, so it sounds like Swagger will have to be even more resourceful in his efforts to prove his innocence.

As you can see, the 2007 film shares many similarities with the TV version on the S, with a few updates
