While the market is flooded with trendy new designer bags, most of 2023's trendy accessories are actually reincarnations from decades past. For example, popular products from the nineties include the Fendi Baguette and the Dior Saddle, which have been revitalized by pop culture nostalgia.
But if there's one bag that perfectly embodies the popular millennial fashion trend, it's the Prada Re-Edition 2005.
A history of luxury reprinted in 2005
Relaunched in 2020 by creative director Miuccia Prada, this minimalist shoulder bag is inspired by the early classic Bandoliera Tessuto Mini Hobo.
Miuccia herself debuted the shoulder bag in 2005, which went on to take the '00s by storm. The understated nylon fabric has become popular among Prada loyalists, making the style an overnight sensation with nearly every expert on board.
To this day, even Generation Z icons like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid are fans of vintage accessories.
Like all things millennium, modern interpretations have set the fashion world on fire. "The 2005 re-edition came at the perfect time, coinciding with nostalgia and the collective cultural need for the 1990s," Celenie Seidel, head of advanced women's wear at Farfetch, tells Bustle.
The bag’s modern success can also be attributed to its new manufacturing process – a more sustainable one. "Prada has taken an impressive lead in developing its Re-Nylon [Econyl] fabric, which is used in all nylon Re-Edition 2005 styles," said Seidel.

The new fabric uses regenerated nylon yarn derived from recycled and purified plastic collected from the ocean, fishing nets and textile fibers.
Do not confuse Re-Edition 2005 with the nearly identical Re-Edition 2000. Unlike the 2005, the 2000 is slightly smaller and obviously has a similar braided handle to the handle of the 2000s version.
Naturally, celebrities love the 2005 reissue
Since the re-edition launched three years ago, fashion's biggest stars have flocked to the design, with some even owning multiple iterations. For example, Dua Lipa and Hailey Bieber have both carried this bag.
Other fashion stars, such as Kaia Gerber, Elsa Hosk and Karrueche Tran, are also members of the Prada team. Kylie Jenner is also a big fan and even gave her daughter Stormi Webster several kid-friendly pieces.

Since its relaunch, the bag has come in a variety of materials, including crystal-encrusted, crinkled nylon and, most recently, Prada's signature Saffiano leather. Today, however, fashion girls are more interested in pastel color palettes, an influence of the "'quiet luxury trend'" that will dominate in 2023, Seigel said.
When it comes to construction, the options are diverse. Prada sells modern versions with longer cross-body straps and removable pouches. Meanwhile, some of the more minimalist, retro-inspired offerings include separate straps (leather or chain), much like the Bandoliera Tessuto Mini Hobo.
Compared with leather handbag products such as Prada's Galleria and Cleo, the 2005 re-edition is more affordable. Pricing starts at $1,390 for the nylon version, and the most expensive rhinestone version is $3,750.
