Just because you're a fancy adult doesn't mean you can't make the most of some well-deserved spring break ideas. Easter is a great opportunity to get some free time off if your office observes it as a public holiday, so why not use them to do something fun? All the kids partying at the beach, of course! But in the meantime, as a grown adult, you might want to avoid encountering college students on spring break — because nothing says "vacation" like a bunch of rowdy twenty-somethings throwing up in the pool while you try Destroyed”. Relax with a glass of fine wine and watch the sunset.
With the harshness of winter over and spring finally starting to arrive, it's nice to have a refreshing holiday. While there are some things you won't miss about spring break in college, there are some things you can still look forward to as an adult — like the beach. As an adult, you can certainly spend spring break, albeit in a more elegant way. If you're looking for a little getaway to get through the summer, here are some ideas for your adult spring break.
1. Austin, Texas
During spring break, Austin is home to SxSW, where you can listen to music, watch movies, learn about tech, and enjoy a full week of barbecue. If you're looking for a little excitement during your vacation and want to attend cultural events like SxSW in a city that's packed with food and nightlife every week, look no further than Austin. It's still lively but has an adult element of culture and food appreciation rather than just a mindless party.
2. Berlin, Germany
When traveling within the United States is most expensive (spring break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other long weekend), it may be cheaper to travel to Europe. Berlin is a beautiful city in spring. Summers are often swelteringly hot and winters are freezing cold, so spring is perfect. You can cycle around the city, immerse yourself in history, dine in Berlin's many amazing cafes and restaurants, or even spend the day at a market singing open-air karaoke.
3. Visit wine country
If your budget fits it, a trip to Malibu Canyon or Napa would be a great way to spend your spring break. Malibu Wines allows you to bring your own snacks so you can taste their amazing wines and watch live music in the warm afternoon air. If these don’t fit into your spring break budget, see if there are any wineries or breweries around you that could serve as a travel destination. What’s better than combining good wine with beautiful scenery?
4. Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica
If you're still enjoying a tropical vacation without the crowds, Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula is your sanctuary. It just so happens that January to April is the prime time to visit Costa Rica because it's dry and warm (as opposed to wet and humid). I've never been, but it's apparently relatively unspoiled and remote, and you'll see a lot of peaceful nature and jungle life. Oprah agrees with this, so there's that.
5. American Natural Landmarks
Why not accomplish some bucket list things during spring break? The United States is filled with natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park (and many other spectacular national parks), Niagara Falls (well, you might have to travel across Canada to see it), the Everglades, the Finger Lakes, and the Rushmore The mountains (of course these faces are not natural, but the beautiful forests and mountains surrounding them are), to name a few. Grow up, visit the natural world, and marvel at the wonders of nature.
6. Park City, Utah
The opposite of traditional spring break is a ski trip. Park City is a great location because it has a thriving local food culture (thanks to the Sundance Film Festival), so you can not only ski but also dine in style in the evening. If Park City isn't for you, some peaks are still snow-capped during Spring Break, making them perfect for skiing and other snow activities, so don't put away your cardigans just yet if a snow vacation sounds perfect to you. .
7. “Adults Only” Resorts in Mexico
It just means you can visit a location that might appeal to spring breakers, but at a resort that's not suitable for them. So if you have your eye on Mexico, you can still use the Spring Break/Easter holidays to travel while avoiding the crowds. While it's a bit pricey, the Mexican Caribbean is a leader in adult-friendly travel if you're ready to splurge. You may have to go through Cancun to get there, but you'll be glad you left the partygoers behind.
8. British Virgin Islands
How do you think an anchor boat that doubles as a bar sounds? Or snorkeling in Bass National Park? Or rent a house overlooking crystal clear turquoise waters? Sounds like a dream come true to me, even though it is a reality in the BVI.
9. Charleston, South Carolina
If you don't like cold or tropical climates or big cities, but still like somewhere cosmopolitan but not too noisy, then Charleston might be the perfect balance of all of those things. Charleston has a thriving restaurant scene, and if you decide you want to see the ocean, South Carolina's beaches are also within easy reach.
10. Staycation
If you want a vacation but can't imagine the idea of actually traveling during the holiday week, why not take a staycation? Get to know the city you live in by doing things you wouldn't normally do, such as eating all your meals in new cafes and restaurants and wandering around parks, galleries, and other attractions in the city. If you really want to splurge, you can even treat yourself to a luxury hotel room by renting one.
