9 things Tucson girls know to be true

Better known as "Old Pueblo" or "Dirty T," Tucson is known for its quirkiness, culture, and history. With an average of 286 days of glorious sunshine per year, it's no wonder people from all over the country flock to Tucson every winter. While we may have beautiful weather, stunning sunsets, and picturesque mountains, Tucson is not just home to snowbirds. It’s also home to a vibrant community of young artists, free spirits and nature lovers.

Tucson is rich in history, but despite our cultural richness, we never stop progressing. We are known for our small town feel. Just ask any Tusonan: If you live here, you're bound to run into someone you know wherever you go. Home to the University of Arizona and nestled in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, Tucson is more than just the cactus that makes Tucson so unique.

We celebrate countless festivities every year, and you better believe Tusconans go all out. We have rodeos, street fairs, and an ever-expanding downtown scene. There's no doubt about it, we love to keep busy, which is why we've teamed up with Nordstrom Rack to show you the real stuff that every girl in Tucson knows.

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom Rack . The new Nordstrom Rack will open on April 28 in Tucson's Wilmot Plaza. Get details here!

1. Our style is as bold as our personality

We're bold, loud, and not afraid to speak our mind (and our style reflects that). Luckily for us, the lovely weather means we can pretty much wear whatever we want year-round. We tend to talk louder and dress louder. We're not afraid to show off a crop top or high-waisted shorts or skirt, and we can definitely wear a jumpsuit.

2. This is wildcat country and we show our pride

Thanks to the University of Arizona, Tucson is wildcat country. When it comes to representing our Wildcats, we take it very seriously. On any game day, you'll find us decked out in red and blue from head to toe, ready to cheer on our team. It would be best not to mention our nearby Arizona State Sun Devils.

3. We can withstand even the hottest summers

There are many benefits to living in a desert climate in the spring and winter: hot, sunny days with temperatures in the 80s and 90s, and cool nights. It’s not uncommon to find ourselves tanning by the pool in March or October. But once the temperatures reach triple digits, we're ready with crisp clothes, sweaters, and plenty of air conditioning.

4. We are fearless travelers

Not only is Tucson located in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, but it's also surrounded by countless destinations that make it easy to satisfy your travel cravings. We partied hard in Rocky Point, surfed in San Diego, and skied in Flagstaff. If we wanted a weekend getaway, Phoenix is only about 90 minutes away.

5. We love walking in the wilderness

Tucson is surrounded by beautiful mountains and we are serious hikers. Weather permitting, we'll head to Sabino Canyon or Romero Pool to take advantage of our favorite cliff diving spots, or simply soak up the sun.

6. ...but we also like to relax at home

Perhaps one of the best parts of Tucson is the character and personality of each home. When we're not in class, working, or having brunch, we often hang out in the private retreat we've set up in our backyard.

7. We are not afraid of showing our toes

It's always sandal weather, which is why every girl in Tucson needs to stock up on plenty of options.

8. It does get cold sometimes

Desert temperatures drop alarmingly fast. Most of the time, cold just means sweater weather for us, but we do love an excuse to throw on a great jacket or coat. Layering is key, especially when chilly mornings quickly turn into hot afternoons.

9. When it rains, it pours.

Monsoon season is by far our favorite season of the year. Between July and August we see heavy rains that flood roads and get soaked shoes. But the spectacular thunder and lightning show makes it all worth it.

No matter what time of year you decide to adventure to Tucson, rest assured there’s plenty to see and experience. From our vibrant and thriving downtown to our mountains teeming with cacti and wildlife, you won't regret exploring southern Arizona. We know Tucson is a desert gem and we love it.
