Pete Davidson and his mum Amy join in the endless debate over pizza toppings. In an ad for "Smartwater," the "Saturday Night Live" star responds to what appears to be a fan letter about the New York City staple. Like everyone else, the 29-year-old comedian has strong opinions about what can and can't be eaten on pizza.
"Dear Pete, we know you're from New York. What are the best pizza toppings to enhance my pizza?" his mother read from a notecard. "The best toppings to enhance the flavor of pizza are pepperoni, sausage, pineapple and you can put ham on it," the Bodies Bodies Bodies star replied. "I've seen people go crazy and throw fried eggs on it. That's actually not bad. You put some avocado on it. What you don't put is anchovies and mushrooms, you disgusting bastards."
Pizza toppings have long been controversial. According to Mashid, putting pineapple on pizza along with spinach, barbecue sauce, eggs and anchovies is polarizing.
This isn't the first time Davidson has been outspoken about pizza. In a 2020 Hot Ones interview, Davidson told host Sean Evans about the best places to eat pizza in New York City, including his hometown of Staten Island. "Landrum & Brown's (Brooklyn) is by far the best pizza in New York, I don't think there's any competition," Davidson said. "Staten Island has the best pizza. Like if you could go to any pizza place there, you'd probably be fine."
The comedian and his then-girlfriend Kim Kardashian capped off the Met Gala with a memorable hotel room pizza party. "You guys, I haven't eaten carbs or sugar in almost a month," Kardashian said, referring to her preparations for the Met Gala. "Definitely three weeks. This pizza — I'm so excited!"
In another Smartwater ad, Davidson talks about how he's "become more noble" but still the "same old kid" from Staten Island. "I still relax with my mom," he added as the chef served him a grilled cheese sandwich topped with truffles.
