While the pantsless trend is still popular in the fashion world, guests at the 2024 Met Gala showed off their skin in different ways. The red carpet is awash with see-through designs, further reinforcing the idea of letting nipples (real or fake) fly free.
On Monday, we saw literal and figurative adaptations of the trend, coming in the form of open braided lace and trompe l'oeil prints, a less obvious take on the trend. Tapered corsets are another way attendees (read: Kylie Jenner and Paloma Elsesser) are accentuating nipples, or the illusion of nipples, at fashion's biggest night.
Of course, the topless trend is nothing new. Designers have been sending scantily clad models down the catwalk without bras for decades. The Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris even hosted an exhibition called "Transparencies," which featured a series of ultra-transparent works. All of which is to say: It makes sense that various celebrities would rock similar looks in order to celebrate preserving fashion's most memorable moments.

Doja Cat's Wet T-Shirt Look
In true Doja Cat fashion, the singer attended the white-tie event, wearing an edgy nude dress. She wore a soaking wet white dress from Vetements. It evoked the typical look of a wet T-shirt, clinging tightly underneath her (naked) body.
The Pure Radiance of Emily Ratajkowski
Emily Ratajkowski unleashed her nipples in a more glamorous way in Versace Haute Couture. The long-sleeved gown features its crystal floral pattern. The gown features a loose knit design that's both shiny and revealing. Her accessories consisted of beige briefs and Chopard jewelry.
Rita Ora sheer beaded dress
After a quick outfit change at the Mark Hotel, Rita Ora was seen heading to the 2024 Met Gala after-party wearing a floor-length (faux?) fur draped over her shoulders to reveal her underlying Sheer bodysuit. The floral beaded detail is reminiscent of 1920s mod style.
Doja Cat Transparent Stockings
In keeping with Doja Cat's nudity theme, the singer wore logo-printed stockings by Vetements—shocking! —— was completely seen through. She held up the bottom with a simple thong while letting the top fly free.
Kylie Jenner's tapered bra
While Kylie Jenner isn't as eye-catching as her peers on the red carpet, she also debuted prominent nipple detail in the form of a tapered bra at the Met Gala. Her Oscar de La Renta gown was custom-made and resembled a chiseled marble bust in the garden.
Lace bodysuit by Adut Akech
Adut Akech's jumpsuit delivers a super scandalous yet undeniably stylish look in a braless style. The second-skin look is a LaQuan Smith design with orchid detailing at the hips and bold cutouts at the front accented by floating teardrop-shaped gemstones.

Thom Browne's Trompe-l'œil suit, designed by Amy Fine Collins, offers a more artistic approach to nipple release. It turns out you can send the same message without showing any skin.
Paloma Elsesser bubble dress
Paloma Elsesser's custom H&M gown was a momentous occasion in itself. But the model went the extra mile, changing into an '80s-inspired bubble dress with an exaggerated tapered bustier for the after-party.
