When you're traveling internationally, the last thing you want to worry about is how to get from the airport to your hotel or Airbnb, let alone how to get home after spending the night in the city you're visiting. After all, public transportation may not always be available, taxis may be overpriced, and you may just want the convenience of ordering a ride on your phone, like your own personal driver. Plus, some taxis or buses only take cash – and you may not have the local currency in your wallet yet. Luckily, ride-sharing apps are here to help. If you're wondering whether Uber can be used abroad, the answer is a resounding "yes!" — but it depends on where you're going.
"Rideshare apps are great for travelers in unfamiliar cities," Scott Mayerowitz, executive news director at The Points Guy, tells Bustle. "Your phone knows where you are, so you can hail a ride almost anywhere, even if you're not sure where you are." You can also track the exact route you take, he says, and if the driver takes you a long way Road, you can contact customer service at any time. "In the end, you never have to worry about cash," Meyerowitz added. "The credit card machine in my recent Las Vegas taxi mysteriously broke and I was forced to pay cash."
So whether you're on vacation or on a business trip outside the United States, if you want to save time and money, ridesharing apps can help. This is one of the most popular services - Uber abroad.
If you're traveling outside the United States, including Canada, Uber has you covered — globally, Uber serves more than 700 cities in 63 countries. Laura Jones, Uber's head of global product marketing, tells Bustle that Uber can help travelers easily visit foreign cities. "No matter where you go, the Uber app remains the same - everything you do in the app is in the language and currency of your choice, so there's no confusion about your destination or fare," she said. Features like scheduling an Uber ride in advance (up to 30 minutes or 30 days in advance) and sharing your trip status with family or friends also benefit riders.
“In addition to the traditional ride-sharing platform, Uber offers unique experiential services that make your travels seamless and adventurous,” Jones said. “You can unlock exciting ways to explore new cities, including personal moped tours in India, on-demand boat tours in Croatia, or scUber, Australia’s first shared submarine.” Plus, she adds, Uber rewards Members will soon be able to earn points on every foreign trip and order, which will bring you priority airport pick-ups, price protection and other benefits.

And, besides Uber, there are other ride-sharing apps abroad that are not available in the United States (at least not yet). For example, Cabify provides services in more than 130 cities in 12 countries, mainly Spanish-speaking countries such as Spain, Brazil, and Colombia. There's also FREE NOW (formerly MyTaxi), which is available in more than 100 cities in 9 European countries, including Portugal, Poland and Spain. BlaBlaCar is a long-distance ride-sharing service that is available in 22 countries, including Spain and France, where you can pick up a driver to get to your desired destination, such as from northern Italy to the south.
“One of the most important qualities for any traveler is flexibility – the ability to change or adjust plans to take advantage of any opportunity – and the key to flexibility is often having options,” said Glenn Murray-Prior, founder of ACTION CULTURE . Busy. “Fortunately, today, travelers can take advantage of the latest transportation trends, such as ride-sharing, to connect between locations.”
Regardless of which ride-sharing service you use, though, it's sure to help make your trip abroad more efficient and save you time and money - you can focus on the journey, while the ride-sharing app can focus on the purpose (getting you there) land.
