This article explains how to use Waze in your car with Android Auto.

You don't have to do much to get Waze running in your car because, like most Android Auto apps, this one works out of the box. All you need to do is install Waze on your phone and connect your phone to your vehicle. It looks like this:

  1. If you don't have Waze installed yet, install it.

  2. Search for Android Auto on your phone and open it to launch its settings.

  3. Click Customize Launcher .

  4. Add the app to Android Auto. It's easy: Find Waze in the list and make sure there's a checkmark next to it so it's visible in Android Auto.

Consider entering your home and work addresses to simplify voice commands, especially when you drive to work. Once you've done this, you can say "Take me home" or "Take me to work" instead of saying the entire address each time.

  1. Click on the three lines to open the menu.

  2. Select View profile .

  3. Choose between family and work .

  4. Click the pencil next to "Home" and enter your home address.

  5. Repeat the previous step for Work .

Waze for Android Auto works the same whether you're using a smartphone screen or a touchscreen console in your car. You'll receive visual and audio alerts about upcoming road conditions, including traffic, construction, and accidents. Use voice commands to start and end navigation, answer and make calls, and more.

  1. Connect your phone to your car to use Android Auto.

  2. Click Waze on the home screen.

  3. Say "Hey Google" and tell Android Auto where you want to go. For example:

    • "take me Home."
    • "Drive to 188 Main St, Burlington, Vermont."
    • “Directions to Pizza Hut.”
    • "Navigation to work."

In some cases, you will be presented with a list of suggested locations and you will need to click on your desired location before navigation begins.

  4. If you use a touchscreen console and prefer to type, first park your car in a parking lot, then tap the search field at the top of the screen and enter your destination.

  5. To report a traffic incident, click the Report button , select the type (Traffic, Police, Collision, etc.) and click Submit .
