It feels like everything already has an emoji, but once a new batch of beloved emoji updates comes out, there's always one (or two, or three) you didn't realize you needed. Apple released its latest update, iOS 16.4, on March 27, and this time, you may have been waiting for some new emojis, including high fives and pink hearts (!).
iOS 16.4 brings a slew of useful improvements, including changes to shortcuts, phone voice isolation, and tweaks to the podcast app, MacRumors reports. The most exciting changes are the 21 new emojis rolling out with the software, ranging from animals like jellyfish and donkeys to three more colorful heart options - because you can never have too many hearts. Plus, there's a "shaking face" emoji, perfect for when you receive truly shocking gossip in a group chat, or when you text your bestie after a first date when your nerves are on edge . This is the only new facial expression of the bunch, which is a pretty big difference compared to the seven added in last year's iOS 15.4 update, but hey - I'll take what I can get.
The fun with emojis doesn’t stop there, though. The new emoji range also includes a wing for use even when behaving at your worst, a folding fan for when a conversation with your crush starts to get spicy, and a pea pod that is almost begging. Group chat name for your best friends. There's even a set of maracas and a flute with Lizzo's name written all over it, so you can signal to your high school bandmates to get the band back together.
According to Emojipedia, iOS users can preview a new batch of emojis when the iOS 16.4 beta is released in February 2023, including the much-coveted pink heart emoji. If you've been using an iPhone for a while, you'll know that adding a solid pink heart emoji has been long overdue, but thankfully, the wait is finally over and you can now spread the love in just about any color under the sun.
