When it comes to your digital footprint, most people like to look their best. You might have your most popular tweets pinned to the top of your profile, your best candid shots added to your "Featured" album on Facebook, and your best-looking Instagram stories saved to your highlights. Now, with a new feature on Instagram, you can pin your favorite posts to your profile, too.
On April 26, Instagram confirmed to TechCrunch that the social media platform is testing a new pin-to-profile feature with select users. The feature will allow people to select up to three posts to display at the top of your profile grid. On June 7, Instagram rolled out the tool to all users globally.
If you use Instagram regularly, you know this is a game changer. After all, if you keep your grid up to date, some of your most cherished posts may be buried beneath the endless thumbnails of your weekly photo dump. Pinned posts are another way to create the vibe you want your visitors to get from your profile.
Maybe you want to make sure the people you like have easy access to your favorite "This Is Them" photos. Or, you want to set the record straight for any detectives by placing the test release at the top of your profile. Maybe you just want to make sure everyone sees the Eat Pray Love level trip you took last summer. By pinning your posts, you can determine your first impression.
How to pin a post?
Pinning posts to your profile is easy. If anything, the hardest step may be deciding which three posts you want to pin. After selecting the posts that are easiest to pin, go to each post and click on the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner of the post. You can choose any three photos, videos or reels to pin to the top of your profile. An option to "Pin to your profile" will appear on the menu. Click this button and the post will automatically appear at the top of the grid, marked with the little white pushpin emoji. You can post any three photos or reels.
If you change your mind about a pinned post, you can unpin the post by returning to the same menu and clicking "Unpin from your profile."
Why can't I pin a post on Instagram?
Although the ability to pin posts to your profile is rolling out to users globally, if you don't see the option to pin a post, you may not have access to the feature yet. Try closing the Instagram app, or check your app store to see if an update is available. If these troubleshooting options don't work, just be patient - it might be possible to pin your favorite stories to your highlights.
