This article explains how to add music to your Instagram Stories. The easiest way to add music to your Instagram Stories is to use the special music stickers, which are available in the latest version of the official Instagram app on iOS and Android devices.

Follow these steps to add music to your Instagram Stories using the Music icon or finding music from the Stickers option:

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap the "Your Story" icon in the upper left corner to create a new story.

  2. Take a new photo or select a photo or video from the gallery.

  3. Click on the music icon.

You can also tap Stickers > Music to open the same music library. The sticker icon looks like a smiley sticky note.

  4. Browse and tap the music track you want to use in your Instagram Story.

You can select the play icon to preview songs before adding a song to your story.

  5. Click 15 and select the track length for the story, then click Done .

Due to copyright restrictions, track length is limited. Instagram Stories are typically no longer than 15 seconds, so for many people, this limit shouldn't be an issue.

  6. Drag the white bar to select the part of the song you want to use, then click Done after making your selection.

  7. Click on the music sticker to choose a different display style or hide the information completely.

If you choose "Add your music" instead of "Music Stickers," you can pinch, resize, and drag it to where you like. This sticker allows friends to add their own songs to Stories by clicking "Add Yours."

  8. Add other stickers, GIFs, and text as usual.

  9. Click on your story to post your new story to your Instagram account.

Or, select the arrow in the lower right corner for more options to share on Facebook, with close friends, or via Messages.

  10. When you're ready to share or publish the story, click Share .

Another option for sharing music to Instagram Stories is to use Spotify's share link. Here's how to do it.

  1. Open the Spotify app.

  2. Select the song you want to share.

  3. Click the ellipsis in the upper right corner.

  4. Scroll down the options and select Share .

  5. Select a story from the list to open a new story in the Instagram app.

  6. Edit your story as normal, adding filters, text, and more.

7. When you're ready, select your story or arrow to see other sharing options.

  8. Once you've made your selection, select Share .

Songs you share in Instagram Stories won't automatically play, but followers can click "Play on Spotify" in your Story to listen directly in the Spotify mobile app.

In addition to allowing you to crop videos and add filters, Instagram also allows you to add music to this type of content. The process is similar to adding music to Instagram Stories.

All video posts are published in reel format.

  1. Click on your story or select the + (plus sign) at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Take a photo or select a video from your photo gallery.

  3. Click on the music icon.

  4. Search and select the track you want to add to your video.

  5. Choose how the songs are displayed and which clips to play and make any other edits.

  6. When you are satisfied with your work, select Done .

  7. Click Next .

  8. Add subtitles and adjust other preferences, then select Share when you're ready to publish your video.

If you use music stickers to add music to your Instagram Stories, you don't need to worry about not being able to find the music because the stickers can access your music library for the current song.

Another option is to create an audio mix of original audio or licensed music for published Reels.

If you can't get licensed music where you live, you can use Meta's Sound Collection, which includes more than 14,000 royalty-free songs and sounds.
