If you're a Meta Quest user, you'll soon have a real stylus you can use in the virtual world.
How does writing and drawing work in virtual reality?
Logitech wants it to work just like it does in the real world; at least, that seems to be the goal with the new MX Ink stylus the company announced on Monday. According to a press release sent to Lifewire, Logitech MX Ink is designed to work with the Meta Quest headset, connecting to the headset even if you already have a controller connected, so you don't have to choose between them. Logitech says the stylus will pair with your Meta Quest app and is compatible with the Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets.
Logitech says that once paired, you can "easily switch between using the Meta Quest controller and MX Ink without interrupting your workflow. Logitech's stylus "acts like a real pen or pencil," There will be a pressure-sensitive tip that allows for like and stroke control, and you'll be able to use it on a variety of surfaces. The company has also released the MX Mat, which it calls a "frictionless writing and drawing environment," but it's optional. , so you can use it without mat MX ink.
So, why use a stylus? Logitech says it can be used for writing and drawing, as well as for navigating virtual environments. Upon release, MX Ink is expected to be compatible with GravitySketch, ShapesXR, ENGAGE XR, Adobe Substance 3D Modeler, Arkio, Realize Medical, Painting VR, Gesture VR, and Open Brush.
Additionally, Logitech has launched MX Inkwell, a charging stand for MX Ink so you can always use your stylus when you need it.
Logitech didn't reveal expected prices for MX Ink, MX Mat or MX Inkwell. The company did say, however, that it should be available via Logitech or the Meta website, as well as Amazon later this year.
