TCL's latest Android phone has a paper screen to make it easier on your eyes

These new smartphones with "paper-like" textured displays are expected to reduce eye strain and reduce screen glare.

TCL is about to launch two new Android phones, both of which use the company's NXTPAPER tablet and laptop display technology and are small enough to fit in your pocket.

TCL has been using NXTPAPER displays in several of its laptops and tablets, but now it's bringing the eye-strain minimizing technology to smaller screens with two new Android phones. The TCL 40 NXTPAPER and TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G promise to be easier on your eyes and reduce screen glare while delivering solid smartphone hardware.

While NXTPAPER's textured "paper-like viewing experience" reduces blue light (making regular screen reading more comfortable), there are differences. The TCL 40 NXTPAPER comes with a 6.78-inch FHD+ display and comes with 256GB internal storage and 8GB RAM (plus 8GB virtual RAM expansion option) to better handle multitasking across applications. It also comes with a 32MP front camera, a 50MP rear camera with a 2MP macro sensor, and a 5MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

The TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G comes with a smaller 6.6-inch HD+ "paper-like" screen, along with 256GB of storage and 6GB of RAM, with the option to expand up to 6GB of virtual RAM. It also includes an 8MP front-facing camera, while TCL says the 50MP rear camera can take advantage of AI processing to capture more professional photos and videos.

The TCL 40 NXTPAPER is priced at €199 (approximately $215) and will be available in Europe starting in September, while the 5G model will be available in Europe in October for €249 (approximately $270). Both versions are expected to be available globally starting later this year at an unspecified date.
