How to reset your Samsung TV

This article explains how to reset your Samsung TV's picture, sound, SmartHub, and network connection settings. Also included are instructions for a full reset, resetting via remote management, and resetting a non-smart Samsung TV.

To reset a picture, select Settings > Picture icon > Expert settings > Reset picture . Select "Yes" to confirm.

This option resets color, brightness, contrast, and other picture-related settings to factory defaults. This comes in handy if you've made manual adjustments to a picture but don't like the results and can't return the settings to where they started. Resetting the picture settings does not change any other TV settings.

To reset sound settings, select Settings > Sound icon > Expert settings > Reset sound . Select "Yes" to confirm.

This option will reset your sound-related settings such as balance, equalizer adjustment, TV mounting type (wall-mounted/standing), HDMI audio format, audio delay, and auto volume to factory default settings.

Like the picture settings, if you manually adjust the sound settings and don't like the results, the Reset Sound option will take you back to your TV's original sound settings. Resetting the sound settings does not change any other TV settings.

To reset Smart Hub settings, go to Settings > Support > Device Maintenance > Self-Diagnostics > Reset Smart Hub . If you are asked for a PIN, the default value is 0000 .

A Smart Hub reset will return these settings to factory defaults and delete all information about your Samsung account. After a Smart Hub reset, you must relink your account to any services and re-establish your Smart Hub Service Agreement.

Although the preloaded streaming apps remain, any apps you previously added to your My Apps viewing selection will have to be re-downloaded and installed.

To perform a full reset, go to Settings > General > Reset > Enter 0000 > Reset > OK .

If your TV doesn't have these menus, try one of the following paths:

  • Settings > Support > Self-diagnosis > Reset
  • Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Reset .

The most comprehensive reset option you can perform is to completely reset your TV. Upon startup, all image, sound, Smart Hub and other operational features (such as any saved broadcast channels) are reset to default settings. Network settings are not affected by a full reset.

Unplugging the TV does not reset it, it just turns it off. If you plug it back in, the TV will restart as if you turned it off and on with the remote. Complete the reset through settings.

You can reset network settings on some Samsung TVs via Settings > All Settings > Connections > Network > Reset Network . To confirm, press Reset .

If there doesn't seem to be an internet connection on your TV, you can perform tests to determine the problem. You can do this by going to Settings > General > Network > Network Status. If you see an X between your TV and router or between your router and the internet, that means there's a problem.

If you are unable to establish a stable connection using the methods provided, please contact your Internet service provider before contacting Samsung.

In addition to the option to reset your TV, you can also have Samsung check your TV and perform all reset functions remotely. In other words, let Samsung control your TV.

This option is only available on Samsung Smart TVs connected to the Internet.

  1. Contact Samsung Care Pro and ask about remote service (free of charge). Make sure you have the model number, serial number, and TV software version (if possible) ready. The agent will also ask you additional questions about possible problems.

  2. Open the Support menu on your TV and select Remote Management .

  3. Read the service agreement and enter your Samsung account PIN . If you don't have a PIN, enter 0.

  4. Once a Samsung service agent is able to take control of your TV, they will do one or more of the following:

    • Diagnostic TV.
    • Adjust your TV's picture, sound, and/or Smart Center settings.
    • Start a factory reset.
    • Install any required software/firmware updates.
    • Provide any further guidance on whether on-site or carry-out service is required.

If you have a non-smart TV or an older pre-smart Samsung TV, you can reset the picture and sound settings through an on-screen menu similar to a smart TV, but without a smart hub or remote management option because the TV doesn't have internet capabilities.

If a full software reset option is provided, the TV will roll back picture and sound settings, channel menu settings, clock and timer settings, and other settings that the user may have changed. The on-screen menu layout may vary depending on the model year, so refer to the user guide for your specific Samsung TV if you're not sure how to access the reset options.

The reset option Samsung offers on its TVs may be necessary to get everything working properly again. However, before you initiate any reset yourself or take advantage of remote management options, check the following:

  • Make sure the physical connections are correct and secure.
  • If you have a smart TV, check your internet connection.
  • If an update is available, update your Samsung Smart TV.
  • If your TV doesn't respond to the remote, replace the batteries and see if the TV works again.
