Samsung launches new Galaxy series, S24 Ultra with Wi-Fi 7 capabilities

The three new smartphones in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series meet all your expectations and run the latest Android and Samsung operating systems.

The long wait is finally over! Samsung officially launched the new Galaxy S24 series of smartphones during the Samsung Unpacked 2024 event.

As you might expect, the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series includes the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. What’s surprising are some of the phone’s features.

Let's talk about the S24 Ultra first, since it's the top of the line. This thing is a 6.8-inch QHD+ beast with a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 120Hz refresh rate, and five (yes, I said five!) cameras. The five cameras include 12 MP ultra-wide angle, 200 MP wide angle, 50 MP telephoto, 10 MP telephoto and 12 MP front camera.

The S24 Ultra runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform, has 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage options, and has a 5,000 mAh battery that can charge to 65% in about 30 minutes if you use a 45W charging adapter (that's sold separately, of course) of). It also runs on the latest Android 14 with One UI 6.1 interface and has 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi Direct Bluetooth v 5.3 capabilities.

The S24 and S24+ aren't quite as impressive, although they're still quite capable. The S24 is 6.2-inch FHD, while the S24+ is 6.7-inch QHD+, both offering Dynamic AMOLED 2x displays and 120Hz refresh rates. While these devices also run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform, they only have 4 cameras: 12 MP ultrawide, 50 MP wide, 10 MP telephoto, and 12MP front camera.

The S24 comes with 8GB of RAM and storage options of up to 256GB, while the S24+ comes with 12GB of RAM and storage options of up to 256GB. The Galaxy S24 has a 4,000 mAh battery that can charge to 50% in about 30 minutes, and the S24+ has a 4,900 mAh battery that can charge to 65% in about 30 minutes, but both require an optional fast charger.

Of course, both run the latest Android and One UI operating systems and Samsung's new Galaxy AI, but neither has Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. Instead, they offer 5G, LET, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fire Direct Bluetooth v5.3. The entire product line is also eligible for Samsung's new 7-year security update and operating system update plan.

The new Galaxy S24 devices are available for pre-order now, starting at $549 for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and $349 for the Galaxy S24 and S24+; in both cases, these prices are "qualifying trade-ins." Without trade-in, the Galaxy S24 starts at $799, the S24+ starts at $999, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at $1,299. Shipping starts on January 31st.
