This article teaches you how to pin a chat on Instagram; it also explores the limitations involved in doing so. Instructions are available for the Android and iOS versions of the Instagram app. You cannot pin chats on the desktop version.
You can pin a private or group chat in the Instagram app to the top of your messages to find it quickly and easily. Here's how to pin a chat in the Instagram app.
In the Instagram app, tap Messages in the upper right corner.
Swipe left on the chat thread you want to pin to the top of the list.
Click Pin .
The chat will now be moved to the top of the messages list and will have a pin icon next to it.
If you've changed your mind and want to unpin the chat from the top of your message list, here's what you do.
On the Instagram app, tap Messages in the upper right corner.
Swipe left on pinned conversations.
Click Unpin .
Chats will now return to chronological order on the message list.
Pinning messages to the top of your Instagram inbox is useful if you have a lot of chats to deal with. This means there’s no need to dig up important clues. However, you should consider these limitations before using this feature:
- You can pin up to three chats . Three chats can be pinned to the top of your inbox; these include group chats and individual chats.
- Fixed chats appear in a fixed order. Once you pin multiple chats, messages will appear based on the time you pinned them, rather than in chronological order.
- Only personal accounts can be pinned. If you're running a business Instagram account, you can't pin chats to the top of your inbox. This feature is only available for personal Instagram accounts.
- Notifications remain unchanged. If you have push notifications set up, you will receive pinned message notifications the same as any other message. They have no priorities.
