Forget asking your friends for makeup advice over FaceTime. Now you just have to interact with the AI bot and you will instantly become charming. That’s right: Creators on TikTok are letting artificial intelligence choose their makeup. The only gain? You have to be ready for some pretty, uh, interesting advice. Think star eyeshadow, black lipstick and so much setting powder, you'd think this was 2016.
There are many different ways you can use artificial intelligence to create your look. TikToker @natviolette tried out Snapchat's new chatbot, an artificial intelligence that uses search engine technology to answer your questions and provide recommendations, including beauty tips. (Basically, you type in a query and it displays the answers from the web, but it's designed to look like you're chatting with a friend.) Another option is ChatGPT. Creator @sourandnasty asked the AI to create a "viral makeup look" and then follow it step by step — even if the results weren't that great.
Of course, TikTok is known for its fun filters that transform your face. One of them turns you into a painting, another reveals what you'll look like as you age, and of course there's the bold glamor filter that lets you live your best 90s supermodel life, even if it's just for a few moments on screen superior. However, the best thing about the AI makeup trend is that you can actually wear it in real life.

To start her AI look, Snapchat recommended @natviolette use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz on her brows because, as the chat says, the Brow Wiz creates "natural, defined brows."
Next comes the basics. The chatbot recommended two classic products: Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt'r Longwear Foundation (Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt'r Longwear Foundation) and Tarte Shape Tape Concealer (Tarte Shape Tape Concealer). "AI is an absolute queen of full coverage," @natviolette said in her post. "Love them." To complete the look, AI set her makeup all around Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder. According to @natviolette, AI seems to like the matte finish. "This is really 2016," she said in the video. "That's okay, though. I miss the full charm."

In the second part of the video, the AI recommends her favorite blush, highlight, eye shadow, eyeliner, lip liner and lipstick products for her to use. For whatever reason – maybe it’s because I had one of those moments in 2016 when I was wearing heavy makeup? - The end result isn't exactly up to date, but it does look good.

Creator @christxiee is also jumping on the AI makeup trend, eventually launching a full-coverage foundation, bronzer, and heavy-duty concealer. Apparently, AI doesn’t like bare makeup.

To buck the trend, @sourandnasty asked ChatGPT to create a viral makeup look and then follow it step by step while resisting the urge to add things the bots seemed to miss, like concealer and brows.
After suggesting primers and foundations, the AI goes straight to eyeliners and eyeshadows. Before she knew it, @sourandnasty had drawn stars and dots on her eyelids, following instructions from an artificial intelligence.
The AI then provided highlighter and lipstick, and that was it. That's the look. It's like this robot combines all the latest trends - colorful eyeshadow, glittery euphoria makeup and soft goth glamor - into one. The creator’s response? “Honestly, I don’t think artificial intelligence will replace makeup artists’ jobs anytime soon.”
