Google has announced that some of its artificial intelligence-powered editing tools will soon be available for free to all Google Photos users. Previously, to use some of these tools, you needed to be a Google Pixel user or have a paid subscription to Google One.
New features available across all Google Photos include:
magic editor
magic eraser
Unblur
portrait light
portrait blur
HDR effects for photos and videos
pop of color
sky advice
movie photos
Styles in the collage editor
video effects
These features will be available in the Android and iOS apps, as well as Google Photos on Chromebooks. You'll need an Android phone running at least Android 8.0 and an iOS device running iOS 15 and above. For a Chromebook, you'll need at least 3GB of RAM and ChromeOS 118 and above.
Exclusive to the Pixel 8 series, Magic Editor uses generative AI to easily drag and drop objects in photos. There's a catch: Google Photos users on Android and iOS can only save to Magic Editor up to 10 times per month. If you want to save more content with Magic Editor, you'll need a Pixel device or a Google One subscription (2TB and above plans).
Starting on May 15, the AI tool will gradually begin rolling out to Google Photos users.
