Once a friendship goes awry—whether due to a betrayal of trust, a disagreement, or something else—a breakup may be in order. It's never easy, but according to astrologer Chambers Chambers, some zodiac signs won't hesitate when it comes to breaking up.
People with these signs are perceptive and can keenly notice when a relationship is coming to an end. They are also very good at setting boundaries in their friendships and communicating when they are pushed.
"Not all zodiac signs exhibit these three traits," Zhang tells Bustle. "However, it's the unique combination of these qualities that make signs stand out among those who are adept at identifying toxic friendships and subsequently ending them gracefully."
They know it's best to let go of friendships that no longer fit so they can find some peace and open the door to new friends who are a better fit.
Here are the three zodiac signs most likely to trigger a friendship breakdown, according to astrologers.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
As a fire sign, Aries doesn't need much to initiate a friendship breakup. While they value a close-knit group, they can also get upset quickly, especially if they think someone is out to harm them. "Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mars - it's an 'act now, deal with the consequences later' sign," Zhang said.
With this warrior planet energy, Aries tend to take things personally, but they also wear their hearts on their sleeves. "There's no mystery about how Aries feel, so if you make them angry, they'll tell you," she says. This is a good thing for resolving differences or clearing up misunderstandings, but it also means they have a hard time letting go.
While Aries will do whatever it takes to save a friendship, they can also tell when a situation is beyond redemption. According to Zhang, once the atmosphere is gone, they quickly prune the proverbial friendship tree so they can get rid of those who brought them down.
Scorpio (October 23rd - November 21st)
"People with strong Scorpios have a natural bullshit detector, which makes it hard for them to trust others," Zhang said. This water sign takes a lot of effort to feel comfortable and secure in a relationship, so if they feel betrayed, they'll either send a breakup text -- or just ghost.
As a sign ruled by both Pluto and Mars, they are not afraid of taking charge in difficult situations, let alone going through difficult transitions in their lives. Zhang said these two traits make it easy for them to trust their instincts and give up on friends when necessary.
Scorpios would rather have a small group of really good friends - even alone - than be surrounded by superficial friends who don't have their best interests at heart. Although they will break off friendships with the wrong people, they will always stay in touch with the right people.
Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
Zhang said that because Capricorns are ruled by Saturn, the planet of discipline and structure, they are naturally good at understanding their own boundaries and limitations in friendships. If someone crosses a line or does something wrong, they won't stick around and watch the same thing happen again.
Zhang said Capricorns won't hesitate to break up when the situation no longer suits them, and they may do so firmly. There are no second chances with this earth sign. Once they realize a friend isn't right for them, they start writing breakup messages.
This sign is also very ambitious, which means they tend to look beyond friendships as they quickly pass life milestones. "It's important for Capricorns that they cultivate people around them who mutually inspire them," Zhang said.
