'American Horror Story' Season 6 Trailer Has Lots of Clues

It's clear from the American Horror Story Season 6 premiere that Ryan Murphy still has some tricks up his sleeve. Honestly, that's it. The lead-up to the premiere was filled with fake trailers and red herrings designed to keep viewers guessing what the season would be like. American Horror Story Season 6 has various themes, ranging from Charles Manson to North Carolina's mysteriously vanished Roanoke Colony. The season will revolve around Roanoke, but it doesn't appear to be based on those events. Instead, the new season is called My Roanoke Nightmare and follows an interracial couple who buy a house in the city and the horrors that ensue.

It's shot like a documentary, not unlike an episode of "Unsolved Mysteries" or "Dateline," with Lily Rabe and Andre Holland playing the real-life Shelbys and Matt Miller and his wife relive the events of their nightmare in real time, while Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding, Jr. play TV versions of the couple, reliving their experiences ’s ordeals, which included hailstorms of teeth, treacherous hot tub dips and mobs carrying torches. These guys are really as much as you get in a premiere.

Luckily, Murphy released a longer trailer for the season, giving fans more clues as to what to expect from the season. While none of this can be confirmed or denied, it does get us at least closer to understanding Murphy's vision for the new season. Of course, this also leaves everyone with more questions.

1. There will be some devil worship

Perhaps as a nod to the coven, this season will include some magic that won't be permanently used. The season premiere gave us a real look at scalping, and in this new trailer, Paulson's Shelby lets everyone know that human sacrifice exists. Why this happened is now the big question of the season — along with all the other questions.

2. The house is clearly unsafe

Just like Murder House in Season 1, American Horror Story once again confronts a house with a creepy past. It’s also a house that seems to have a mind of its own—or at least its own agenda. In the premiere, it was teasing Paulson, and it's safe to say its stakes will likely be raised as the season continues. but why?

3. Has some serious Blair Witch vibes

From those totem-like figures in the woods in the season premiere to the man talking to the camera about things in the woods and house trying to kill him, there are some clear connections to The Blair Witch Project . Even the American Horror Story Season 6 tree logo and the branch dolls spread throughout the house in the premiere look a lot like the image on the poster for The Blair Witch Project , its 2016 sequel. But who is he and where does this video come from? And, most importantly, what wanted to kill him? All remains to be revealed.

4. That little girl is obviously the key to something

We know Matt's sister Lee (Angela Bassett) doesn't have custody of her daughter Flora, but we still see her in the house. Matt calls it kidnapping, while Lee thinks it's her right. Flora is obviously a big key to what's going on here. What's the key to Flora, though, well, you guessed it: we're not quite sure yet.

5.What is hidden in that secret door?

In this new trailer, there's a brief shot of Flora staring at a small black door. Lee closed the door, but it was clear what the door portended. At some point we have to find out where it's going, or who's using it. It's safe to say that this probably won't be some friendly tenants.

6. Don’t mess with Kathy Bates

One thing is clear from the trailer: Kathy Bates is not to be messed with. She seems to be the ultimate villain of the season. Maybe a survivor of the Roanoke colony came back to take her home? Or is it just an overzealous relative trying to keep the colony alive? Either way, she seems like a woman who knows what she wants, and she wants that house. “I protected this place to save the colony,” she said. But where to start? Now here's the problem.

7. “She” is definitely someone you don’t want to see

"Matt?" Paulson shouted. "Did you see her?" Then the two stared out the window in broad daylight, filled with fear. We don't see anything, but it's clear that whoever this "she" is, she's probably someone you don't want to see. This question about "her" felt like a warning. Matt in particular lets the audience know that he doesn't think things can get any worse, and then they do.

How bad could things get? That's something you'll have to wait and see. But it definitely looks like this is the season of American Horror Story that will have Reddit going crazy trying to figure out what the hell is going on here. The only thing you can be sure of after watching this extended trailer is that the show is going to try to be creepier than ever.
