You don’t have to be a chef to get the hang of popular TikTok recipes like red eggs. Even the most confident home cooks make mistakes from time to time, according to a January 2022 survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Idaho Food. In fact, more than half of the 2,000 respondents said the simple dishes they struggled with most were the simple dishes. It wasn't necessarily the complicated meals that gave them trouble, but the so-called "simple" recipes, with 56% admitting their results were never quite right. Topping the list? Pancakes accounted for 38%, eggs accounted for 37%, and pasta accounted for 35%.
While 71% of respondents described themselves as "natural cooks," 83% of those who screwed up a simple recipe admitted they felt like a "loser" afterwards. Nearly three-fifths of people said they felt extremely embarrassed after serving burnt eggs or soggy pasta. The survey found that, on average, most people will try to make a recipe four times before either getting it right or giving up forever.
Frustration in the kitchen is completely understandable and might be enough to make you throw a burnt skillet in the sink. But if this rings true with your experience, stick with these simple recipes until you get it right, even if it takes five, eight, or twenty tries. Will this spicy, crunchy, eggy dish solve all your kitchen woes? Read on to learn how to make TikTok viral chili eggs.

Curly has over 1 million followers on TikTok, so you're sure to be in good hands when you light up the stove. She has recipes for everything from Korean potato salad to creamy angel food pasta. Then there's her chili eggs, inspired by Amy Velichowski's famous pesto eggs. While poaching eggs can be a pain—the polls don’t lie—there’s a lot of wiggle room with this recipe. (Tip: If the eggs are a little burnt, that's okay.) Follow Curly's recipe here:
- Add a few tablespoons of chili oil to the pan and heat over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, crack two eggs into the pan.
- Keep them sunny side up. No flipping!
- Cover to speed up cooking time.
- Watch the egg whites become opaque.
- Remove the cover.
- Add more chili oil and sprinkle with kosher salt.
- Cook until the yolks are slightly jammy.
- Serve with rice, toast, or on its own.
