You know the pain when you exit the Starbucks app after ordering a drink and realize you forgot to load your Starbucks card? Then realize shortly after that you now can’t get Starbucks rewards for your order? Well, within a few months you'll never feel that pain again. Starbucks announced that customers can use any payment method and they will still receive Starbucks Rewards.
The Starbucks app allows you to load it automatically via any card or bank account you have registered on the app. However, it does not allow you to use the card to purchase drinks directly. With the arrival of the new update, Starbucks customers won't have to worry about whether their card balance will be low.
Customers can also order drinks from the app and still pay with cash, card or Apple Pay. But customers in the U.S. and Canada need to take note. While they don't have to worry about reloading their Starbucks card, they'll get fewer rewards using a different payment method. For those who pay for their order with a Starbucks card, they'll earn two stars for every dollar spent. But using different payment methods will only give you one star per dollar. I guess you have to pick your battles.
"Our customers have shared with us that as Starbucks Rewards members, they want more to pay and earn in the app in addition to their Starbucks Card," Starbucks chief marketing officer Brady Brewer told CNN The choice of stars.”
While most Starbucks orders are likely being placed through mobile orders due to quarantine, the exciting thing is that you don't have to worry too much if your balance is low the next time you go to Starbucks to pick up a drink.
