Mike and his companions wander off as Hawkins has a new group of puzzle-solving friends, led by none other than Lucas' scene-stealing sister Erica. According to Deadline, Stranger Things season 3 will feature more Priah Ferguson, with the 11-year-old girl having been promoted to a guest star. In season two, the young actor played Lucas's witty, syrup-obsessed sister in a few episodes, and she quickly became a fan favorite. Now, she's back for season three, with a proper storyline.
According to Deadline , Erica will be back "with a whole bunch of friends." Considering Erica's admiration for Barbie dolls and irritating her brother's friends, there's a good chance her army is mostly made up of other little girls. How awesome would that be? So far, there's only been one true female friendship in Stranger Things , and that's Nancy and Barb's friendship. Sadly, the world had little chance to get to know Babu before she was captured by the devil.
Which makes it all the sweeter for Lucas' sister and her friends to embark on their own adventure. In addition to announcing Ferguson's increased role in season 3, Netflix also hinted at the future of Erica and her friends:
"No longer content to sit back and watch, Erica finds herself on a mad mission to save Hawkins from a dangerous and unexpected new threat."
Erica saves Hawkins on her own terms? Well, can the third season be released now? Because this sounds like something the world needs to see.
Believe it or not, Season 2 wasn't originally planned to include as much of Elektra. Matt Duffer, one of the people behind the show, told Yahoo in a November interview,
"I love Erica. [Ferguson] was just a local employee that we hired in Atlanta. Erica wasn't even supposed to be in [Season 2] like she was. We fell in love with this girl."
Duffer went on to say that the young actor is "very good at making GIFs." Of course, he's right. Before the end of season 2, fans were already making GIFs featuring Erica's quips. It didn't take long to find out that the show had another breakout character in the works, and it's nice to know that this will mean we'll be seeing a lot more of Lucas' sister in the future.
While it's too early to reveal exact plot information, it sounds like Erica and her friends may get their own side quest in season three. In fact, if there's one theme that's emerged in all the tidbits about the upcoming season so far, it's that, outside of the core cast, the residents of Hawkins are realizing that their town is a strange place to live.
In addition to more Elektra, season three will also introduce Robin, played by Maya Thurman Hawke. Robin is described as an "offbeat girl" who discovers a dark secret. And she's not the only one. While the cast has yet to be confirmed, Netflix is looking for actors to play the town's mayor, an old woman who hangs out with her kids, and a "morally compromised" reporter, Slash Film reports. Beneath their relatively simple descriptions, there are characters that might signal to the rest of Hawkins that there's more going on in their sleepy town than they're being told.
Hey, if they want answers, Erica is their best choice, because if anyone's going to tell the world what really happened to Hawkins, it's her—and you can bet she'll do it in style .
