Why When We Collided will be so familiar to Harry Potter fans

If you love Fifty Shades of Gray and have been looking for another steamy, romantic movie series, you're in luck. Published on October 23rd, "After We Collided " was originally a One Direction fan fiction published on Wattpad and tells the story of a college freshman named Anna who falls in love with "bad boy" Harry. When the story was adapted into a novel and television series, Anna's lover's name was changed to Hardin Scott. As you might have guessed, Harry Styles himself didn't play Harding in After We Collided , but there was another familiar Brit taking on the role.

In the film adaptation, Harding is played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin. His name might not sound familiar (yet!), but you've definitely seen him before—playing a bad boy is nothing new to him. While he was still a child actor, Fiennes-Tiffin played his first major role as young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . And, as you might have guessed from his last name, he's actually the nephew of Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes.

However, in an interview with USA Today , Half-Blood Prince director David Yates assured readers that Fiennes-Tiffin's family connections were not the reason he got the role. "His being related to Ralph was not the main reason for choosing him," the director explained. "The fact that he looks very similar to Ralph is an advantage. Of course, it helps. But mainly I chose Hero because of this wonderful haunted quality that seems to bring Tom Riddle to life for us on screen ”

The similarity is uncanny, right?

But two years before playing a younger version of the villain, Fiennes-Tiffin debuted in a character very different from Harding and Voldemort. He played Spartak in the British black comedy Bigga Than Ben , about Russian backpackers trying to make money illegally in London, starring alongside Westworld 's Ben Barnes.

He also starred in the British war drama Private Peaceful, which tells the story of two brothers growing up during the First World War. Fiennes-Tiffin plays a younger version of one of the brothers named Charlie.

In addition to his film work, he has also appeared in several television roles. He appeared in the 2018 miniseries Safe and the ITV miniseries Cleaning Up. While his acting career has been busy since starring in "Harry Potter, " "After" marked his first major starring role, introducing him to new fans.

In a recent interview with Wonderland , the actor talked about the challenges of playing a character who does a lot of questionable things and is so different from who he is in real life. "He's definitely a controversial guy," the actor noted. "I definitely learned how not to judge my characters, because sometimes you want to. You know when you're screaming at the screen in a movie? I feel like Hardin does a lot of that, but as a "As an actor, it's great because it's such an illogical, impulsive thing that you really have to get into it."

Fiennes-Tiffin may be best known for playing the baddest wizard before After We Collided , but now he's getting the chance to reintroduce himself, playing a character unlike any he's played before.
