Since Snapchat is quickly becoming the social media app to rule them all, there are a few things we should learn to use it better. Filters, hacks, tips and even tricks all swirl in one giant mess. But one important question remains unanswered: How does Snapchat choose your "best friends"? Is it an algorithm, the luck of the draw or just random chance?
If you want to know what the hell I'm talking about, then you should open your app. Take a photo, add some text, and filter out the junk. Now that you're ready to send, click the blue arrow in the lower right corner of the screen. You will be taken to a page with all your contacts. You can send it to your Stories so everyone can see your work, or you can set your sights a little lower and check out an exclusive category called "Best Friends." Depending on your social media activity, you may have many or a few names in this category. But how do you get people on the list? Do I need to lie to a secret Snapchat bodyguard to get a shot? It's actually much simpler than you think.
Snapchat monitors and tracks who you keep sending photos to. According to their support page, the best friend categories change daily based on who you interact with the most. This makes perfect sense, because if you're constantly sending photos to one person, typing in their username or scrolling through your entire contact list can be boring. This way your name is at your fingertips - super convenient.
This list changes based on usage. If one day you send a lot of photos to your friends, you can expect them to appear in the list. If you decide that you're not going to use Snapchat yourself and instead get tons of photos directly from your best friends, you can expect the list to reflect that as well. It's simple logic, but it actually works.
Since you interact more with certain people in your contacts, it's logical that you want their names closer to the top - easy access. If they send you a photo, you want to get back to them faster. If you want to change your list, don't second guess it. All you have to do is start sending snaps to the people you want on your friends list. The video below breaks this down for you.
Basically, what the video shows is that it's fun, easy, and totally doable. So get out there and take some photos!
