As far as I'm concerned, there are two different queens to dress up for this Halloween. The first one is Beyoncé, and the other one is of course the Ice Queen, aka Elsa, Queen of Arendelle, aka Elsa. guess what? Elsa's Halloween costume is super easy to DIY.
Now, I'm not saying one queen is better than the other (get it, Beygency?), but I guarantee Elsa will be the more recognizable of the two queens. That's the only reason Bey's endless wardrobe doesn't work for her. She is always dressed differently! Yes, she looked flawless, but she certainly didn't stand out in a sea of other pop star-inspired outfits. Elsa, on the other hand, appears to be wearing only one gown. This is Halloween gold because your costume will be instantly recognizable—at least to anyone who doesn't live in an isolated ice palace this year. There's nothing more disappointing than having to explain your outfit after putting so much thought into it. You just want people to know, you know? Now, let's complete the task of rebuilding Elsa.
I've thrown together all the components you need to create a simple DIY Elsa costume that's cute, recognizable, and sexy, but not overtly suggestive like some of the other Frozen costumes on the market Sex (looking at you, Yandy). Here, you'll need six things:
1.Light blue dress
Lulu's Exclusive Royal Engagement Strapless Light Blue Maxi Dress, $68, Lulu's
Elsa's sparkling blue dress was the focal point of her look, but if you can't find a dress that's already sparkly, just find a solid blue dress and immerse yourself in the glittery vibe. Can. After all, half the fun of Halloween is covering yourself in lots of glitter and/or fake blood. The other half is opening buckets of fun-sized candies until you fall into a sugar coma.
This strapless maxi dress brings a touch of chic to Elsa's long-sleeved gown. Anyway, the cold never bothers you!
2. Body flash
Jerome Russell B Wild Hair & Body Glitter Spray, $5, Walgreens
Spray body glitter on your bare arms to mimic the look of Elsa's sparkly sleeves. Trust me, you'll look radiant throughout the night and in every photo on Instagram. #NoFilter required.
The reviews for this body shimmer spray are amazing. "I get so many compliments on my glowing skin," one user wrote. Plus, since it's an aerosol, your hands will stay cleaner - read: better-tasting candy.
3. Glittery cloak
Blue Glitter Cape, $30, Halloween Spirit
A flowing cape is a must-have accessory for any queen. It's regal without being fussy like a crown digging into your scalp. You'll love its dramatic swoosh as you groove to songs like "Thriller" and "Monster Mash" !
A few safety pins will secure this shiny blue cape to the back of your dress. If you're pressed for time or looking for a cheaper alternative, stores like Walmart and Jo-Ann Fabric have tons of fabric you can buy by the yard.
4. Blonde braids
Tonystev Design Elsa wig, $18, Etsy
If you really want to copy Elsa's look, then you have to embrace her Scandinavian roots and go blonde. If you already have blonde hair, simply braid your hair into a side-swept braid. If not, then consider investing in a wig.
I was surprised to see so many affordable wigs on Etsy, like this one, which is a perfect replica of Elsa's wig. Perfect for those who haven't perfected the art of knitting yet.
5.Snowflake hairpin
VVarsany 12 Frozen Glitter Snowflake Hairpin Hairpins, $17, Etsy
In your secluded kingdom, you're bound to have a few splinters in your hair. Stagger them over your blonde braids for an Elsa-approved look.
These handmade snowflake pins look just like the snowflake pins in Elsa's hair. Plus, they'll keep your hair looking great all winter long, from holiday parties to magical ice skating competitions.
6. Frosted makeup
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick Color 24 Pink Whisper, $32, Sephora | Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in Color 1916 Frosted Fuchsia Iridescent Eyeshadow, $21, Sephora
Elsa lives in an ice palace, so it only makes sense that all of her makeup would be frosted tones (which, by the way, is definitely a trend for everyday wear right now). But aside from rosy pink lips and lavender eyelids, the Ice Queen's face is fresh, which means you should skip the bronzer to get the exact impression.
For a dramatic Elsa look, apply a few coats of eyeshadow, but just swipe it for a refined, everyday look. Gotta love products that can do double duty.
Because no Frozen story is complete without Olaf, so I'll just leave you with this gem:
Happy Halloween, busy readers!
