Harry Styles has an incredible fan base. Just like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, in addition to the incredible outfits, audiences went to great lengths to get tickets to Styles' concert. Yes, The Hive were furious that Styles won Album of the Year, but there was more drama afoot. (No, I'm not talking about the secret reunion with his ex Taylor Swift.) No, the drama had to do with stylized performances and main-stage glitches that you almost certainly missed.
Styles took to the stage in a silver fringed jumpsuit to perform his single "As It Was." Reminiscent of the original music video, the set included a revolving stage on which Styles and his team of backup dancers moved.
“What you don’t know is that the minute the curtain goes up and it’s show time, our turntable starts spinning in reverse,” Brandon Mathis, one of the dancers, said in an Instagram Story. "Backwards. We were all freaking out on live TV and there was nothing we could do to stop it. We actually had to troubleshoot and try to work backwards to complete a complete piece. Talk about professionalism."
"There were 12 of us on the turntable, and we rehearsed for 10 days, sliding in these beautiful formations and sliding off the turntable... Harry fit into it really well and did a beautiful duet," the choreographer Dexter Da Rocha said in an interview. - Deleted TikTok video cited by Variety . "Changing all these patterns on the spot without even walking in that direction? ... Harry walking as hard as he could while singing and turning everything around was unbelievable," Da Rocha continued.
Mathis also shared a celebratory photo of the cast and crew and paid tribute to artistic director Joanne Bourgeois for his encouragement and creativity. Despite the chaos on stage, it was a big night for Styles. He won six Grammy Awards at the ceremony, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "As It Was." That night, he also won honors for "Best Pop Vocal Album" and "Best Engineered Album."
