It’s time to rename the Grammy Awards the Beyoncé Awards. The "Formation" singer broke the record for most awards ever at the 2023 ceremony on February 5, becoming the most decorated artist in Grammy history. Beyoncé has now won 32 Grammy Awards, breaking the record set by late composer Georg Solti who won 31 trophies throughout her career. Beyoncé tied her own record by winning Best R&B Song for "CUFF IT" at the ceremony, but she couldn't accept the award in person because host Trevor Noah said she "met Traffic jam". Finally, when Beyoncé attended the awards show, she broke the record, winning Best Dance/Electronic Album for Renaissance .
In her acceptance speech, Beyoncé chose to focus on her family and the LGBTQ+ community that inspired the Renaissance rather than her historic achievements. "I tried not to get too emotional," she said. "I want to thank my Uncle Johnny, although he is not here, but his spirit is here. I want to thank my parents - my father, my mother, thank them for loving me and pushing me. I want to thank me Beautiful husband, my beautiful three kids watching at home, I want to thank the queer community for loving and inventing this genre.”
Beyoncé heads into the 2023 Grammy Awards as the most nominated artist of the night with nine nominations, including Album of the Year for "Renaissance" and "Record" and Album of the Year for "Break My Soul" . She and her husband Jay-Z are tied as the most Grammy-nominated artists, with 88 nominations each throughout their career. She already has 28 career wins before 2023, meaning she only needs four more to break the record. At the Grammy premiere, she won Best Dance/Electronic Recording for "Break My Soul" and Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Plastic Off the Sofa."
On Beyoncé's historic night, the Beyhive took to Twitter to celebrate all of her wins leading up to the moment she broke the record.
Beyoncé's speech thanking the queer community was particularly moving for fans, considering how many LGBTQ+ artists were spotlighted and spotlighted during the Renaissance.
However, for some fans, breaking the record isn't enough. The Beyhive is still waiting to see if Beyoncé will win Album of the Year for Renaissance . Despite having 32 wins, she has yet to win one after nabbing three nominations for 2009's I Am...Sasha Fiers , 2013's Beyoncé and 2016's Lemonade The Grammy Awards, the top award.
In addition to Album of the Year, Beyoncé has two chances at more Grammys, as "Break My Soul" is also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
