Here's Why Swifties Think Taylor Swift Is Working with Nicki Minaj on '1989'

Swift is currently overloading Google's servers trying to solve Taylor Swift's 1989 (Taylor's Version) vault puzzle, which is currently showing up on the search engine. One of them might point to a surprising duet. Fans think Swift might be collaborating with Nicki Minaj on one of the five tracks from the 1989 TV version of "From the Vault" because one of the puzzle answers matches one the two artists recently secretly dropped Potential Easter egg match.

One of the 89 vault puzzles (yes, 89 that match the album title) reveals the word "Sagittarius," which is Swift and Minaj's zodiac sign. In August, the rapper responded to a post on Twitter, bragging that the pair were the only female artists to have more than 100 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 using their zodiac signs. "Resist the urge to say 'Sagittarius Tinz' right now, too bad," she wrote, alongside a hand over mouth emoji. At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, Swift called Minaj her "favorite Sagittarius" before presenting her with the Best Director award.

Now that the term is being used in the Vault Mystery, fans are speculating more than ever that Minaj will likely appear in 1989 (Taylor's version) . To date, all of Swift's re-recorded Vault songs have featured a variety of collaborators, including Maren Morris and Keith Urban on "Fearless," and Chris Stapleton, Phoebe Bridgers, and Ed Sheeran on "Red." , and most recently Maren Morris and Keith Urban in Fearless . , Paramore's Hayley Williams and Fall Out Boy on Speak Now (TV) .

That said, it's likely that Swift was just using her zodiac sign as a general hint of the year 1989 , named after her birth year, considering some of the other Google Vault puzzles include "Thirteen," to match her birth date, and "Wednesday," the literal weekday she was born on. While Mina's use of the word is interesting, it could also be a red herring.

Considering Swift and Minaj's long history, the pairing makes sense. The rapper has repeatedly credited Swift with helping her first pop crossover hit "Super Bass" become a huge success, even earning it a Diamond certification in 2021. Back in 2011, Swift expressed her love for "Super Bass," even singing a few rap lines during a radio interview. Later that year, Minaj performed the song during one of her Speak Now tours.

In 2015, Swift made a surprise appearance at Minaj's VMAs performance, performing "The Night Is Still Young" with her, as well as her own segment of "Bad Blood." At last year's VMAs, Swift was seen singing and dancing to the lyrics to "Super Bass" during Minaj's Video Vanguard performance, even instructing the audience to stand during her speech, during which she once again gave Swift a shout-out . It would be a sweet moment of consummation if their rumored 1989 (TV) collaboration comes to fruition.
