Britney Spears has resolved her separation from husband Sam Asghari after more than a year of marriage and six years of dating. TMZ first reported their breakup, with a source later confirming the news to People magazine. The outlet also later reported that Asghari filed for divorce from Spears on August 16. After Asgari commented on the reports in an Instagram Story on August 17, Spears responded via Instagram on August 19.
"As you all know, Hessam and I are no longer together..." Spears wrote alongside her latest dance video. "Six years is a long time to be with someone, so, I'm a little shocked but... I'm not here to explain why because it's [sic] honestly, it's no one's business! But, Honestly, I can't stand the pain anymore!"
The pop star went on to let her supporters know she appreciated them. "In some telepathic way I have received so many messages from friends that melt my heart, I thank you!!!" she wrote. She noted that she had been "powerful for too long," adding that she would "do the best she could" and "actually do a really good job."

Asgari explained that after "six years of love and commitment," they "decided to end [their] journey." "We will maintain our love and respect for each other and I wish her the best ever," he added. "Bad things happen. It seems ridiculous to ask for privacy, so I just ask that everyone, including the media, be kind and considerate."
The model's rep previously denied rumors of marital problems in March, saying Asgari wasn't wearing a wedding ring because he was filming a movie. Asghari last appeared on her Instagram in June.
The two first met in 2016 when Asghari played the Grammy winner's love interest in her music video for "Slumber Party." They soon started dating and became Instagram official on New Year's Day. In a 2017 radio interview, Spears revealed that she took the first step. "We sat there waiting together for 20 minutes at a time, so we were basically forced to talk to each other," she said. "I found his phone number in my bag. I was like, 'He's really cute, this guy is really cute.' "So I called him and from then on, he was just a really fun, interesting guy."
Spears got engaged to Asgari a few months before she emerged from the conservatorship in November 2021 after 13 years. Asgari has publicly supported the singer as she fights to oust her former conservator, father Jamie Spears, and end her conservatorship in a years-long court battle. They tied the knot in an intimate wedding at Spears' Los Angeles home in June 2022, with a guest list that included Madonna, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore and Donatella ·Versace. "The ceremony was a dream and the party was even better," she wrote on Instagram after the big day. “I’m still in shock at how many incredible people came to our wedding! @SamAsghari I love you!!!”
