If you don't think The White Lotus is an absolute sucker for its themes, you're wrong. As the second season of the HBO Max dark comedy comes to a close, fans are piecing together who Tarantino's American cowboy is and who will meet his untimely demise in the finale. Could it be Leo Woodall's Jack or Jennifer Coolidge's iconic billionaire Tanya? Perhaps Cameron (Theo James) will become a victim of the "Morro Testa" legend, if it eventually manifests itself. However, one thing we can all agree on is that the theme song to White Lotus is a slap in the face.
The opening credits have it all - strange bird calls, an ominous three-note scale, and a lot of mysterious art that could signal the end of the season. Although only 90 seconds long, the infectious theme song - "Renaissance" - has become a hit and is even played in clubs.
The song also went viral on TikTok, something composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer didn't fully realize at first. "There was an article that talked about this theme and how it was done and how it almost looked like it was designed to be popular on TikTok," he explained to Buzzfeed. “It’s funny because I don’t really know much about this stuff.”
"It feels like it's already very club-friendly. It feels like a party and just an all-out celebration," Tapia Deville said of Renaissance. "When the beat drops, we go through those chords. It feels big to me. It feels very exciting, like we're on a journey."
It's truly been a journey. Twitter has been buzzing about the brilliance of the theme song for weeks. @stewandr basically read my mind: “Is anyone else having trouble concentrating on work because the White Lotus theme song is playing too loud in their head?”
"If I got married, the White Lotus theme would be the first dance," @Bobby_Wads declared.
Don't Touch the Remote - We won't skip the introduction to the White Lotus in this house.
It's safe to say that the "Renaissance" is separating those who have taste from those who don't. “He was a 10 but he pressed ‘skip intro’ on White Lotus,” said @LouisStaples.
Basically, Twitter loves the theme song, and we'll all be excited when the Season 2 finale drops on December 11.
