Spotify’s new feature creates a music time capsule for you to unlock in 2024

As we all know, the beginning of a new year brings new beginnings. But more importantly, it gives you the chance to really make your Spotify Wrapped something to be proud of over the next 12 months. If it's too stressful to wrap your head around right now, don't worry, because Spotify now has "Playlist in a Bottle," a more low-key way to end your year. Here's everything you need to know about the new features.

What is Spotify's In A Bottle playlist?

Starting January 4, 2023, Spotify is offering users of the platform the opportunity to create a musical time capsule, aptly dubbed a "playlist in a bottle." Using Playlists in a Bottle, users will be prompted to select songs that fit a specific theme. Predictions for the year and favorite songs of the moment are all fair game, with prompts like "a song you're going to kiss someone this year" and "a song that makes no sense a year from now" both out. You can choose a specific song by entering a title, or you can choose Spotify's "Random" button to choose based on your listening habits. Once your answers are locked in, the final playlist won't be accessible until January 2024, so get ready to hear some fun throwbacks or feel some musical nostalgia a year from now. You have until January 31, 2023 to create your music time capsule.

How to Make a Bottle Playlist on Spotify

First, you need to make sure your application is up to date so that you can use this feature. From there, go to spotify.com/playlistinabottle and it will redirect you to the Spotify app. Similar to when you receive packaged results, you will be taken to a new screen showing a colorful animation and buttons. The first step in the process is to choose the item you want to put in your electronic time capsule - a bottle, jeans pocket, gumball machine, acorn, lunchbox or teddy bear. When you make your selection, you'll be prompted to select the appropriate song, and after answering a few questions, you can choose to continue or "Continue" for more prompts.

Once you've filled in as many prompts as you'd like, you can 'lock' your answers to seal your playlist for the next 12 months, so make sure your answers meet your criteria and are expressed here Your identity is moment-to-moment. If you want to share your completed capsule with other social media platforms, you can do so by clicking the "Share" button and selecting Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, etc.

Once it's all done, there's not much to do except wait for the capsule to be released in early 2024 - so keep listening to your Friends Mix or make 10-person Blends at the same time. Before your Spotify Playlist in a Bottle becomes available or Frank Ocean releases a new album, you need something to do to pass the time. Whichever occurs first.
