After a series of subtle hints about a re-release of her 1989 album, a new theory has piqued the interest of fans online, claiming the Grammy winner may be ready to surprise with another of her best-selling albums.
In a now-viral video, TikTok user simpofthesapphics noted that Swifties have "got a lot of 1989 Easter eggs from Taylor. Like so many people do" — including the recent release of "I Can See You." music video, in which fans spotted a 1989 TV logo as the singer's getaway car drove away.
After noting that Swift might want each of her re-released albums to "have its own era" for many different reasons, including money, the TikToker went on to say that she might also drop her Reputation album unexpectedly The re-release came immediately after it was announced that 1989 (Taylor's version) would be released soon.
"With this, we're entering the 1989 era of reputation that we knew was coming," a TikTok user explained, noting that the "I Can See You" music video seemed to indicate that the era of reputation was coming. Naturally, this latest theory sparked a huge response from Swifties on TikTok, with many claiming the unexpected drop in reputation "totally makes sense."
One user commented: "This is the best theory I've heard about Repation before 1989. " Another user said Repation will "suddenly disappear" because it "needs no explanation" - quoted Preface to the 2017 album.
However, other fans disagree with this theory and believe Reputation will likely be re-released in 2024. "Logically, she just started recording last November," one fan pointed out, while another simply commented: "That's almost certainly not true."
