Netflix has an extensive documentary lineup in June, with highlights including Black Barbie (June 19), a Shondaland film that tells the story of Beulah Mae Mitchell, Kitty Black Perkins and Stacey McBride Irby—U.S. Three black women at the company were responsible for the debut of the first black Barbie doll in the 1980s.
Viewers who enjoyed "Turning Point: The Atomic Bomb and the Cold War" may want to watch "Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial" (June 5), a documentary series examining the rise of the Nazis through the Nuremberg Trials. There's also the true-crime series "How to Rob a Bank" (June 5), which tells the story of Scott Scurlock, the man behind dozens of bank robberies in Seattle in the 1990s.
Sports documentaries released in June include Tour de France: Unchained Season 2 (June 11) and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (June 20), directed by Emmy winner Greg Whiteley (Greg Whiteley) and the crew responsible for "Cheer" and "Last Chance U." The show follows the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders throughout the 2023-24 season.
For comedy fans, Outstanding: The Comedy Revolution (June 18) is a documentary exploring the history of LGBTQ+ comedians, including Lily Tomlin, Wanda Sykes, Suzy Eddie Izzard, Rosie O'Donnell, Scott Thompson and Margaret Cho, as well as specials from new films Jo Koy ( Brooklyn Live , June 4) and Keith Robinson ( Different Strokes , June 11).
At the end of the month, watch the second season of The Mole, a competition show hosted by Ari Shapiro (June 28), and Own Manhattan, a reality show that takes an inside look at New York City's luxury real estate market.
