Katy Perry suffers wardrobe malfunction during 'American Idol' live broadcast

Katy Perry just made a major fashion faux pas. During the April 15 episode of American Idol Season 22, the singer sat on the judging panel with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to admire this year's Idol hopefuls . However, all eyes were on Perry when her costume started falling apart during the show.

As contestant Roman Collins belted out "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," Perry's metallic Kate Patton-designed crop top came loose. The singer later shared a behind-the-scenes video of the wardrobe malfunction on Instagram, in which the show's crew frantically tried to repair the torn top.

"I need to put my top on," Perry said in the video. "If we don't fix this, the show is going to overperform," her "American Idol" co-star Brian quipped, "Hey, I got it!" and grabbed a pair of small scissors. "I'm going in," he added, then gave up immediately.

Later in the video, Perry told host Ryan Seacrest that Collins' performance "crashed my top," adding, "I guess it's a woman's world." When fellow judges Bryan and When Richie joked that Perry's misadventure would attract more ratings, the "Fireworks" hitmaker placed a pillow over her outfit. “This is a family show,” she said.

As for the costume itself, the singer said she knew she was taking a risk by wearing it on live television. "I absolutely love this outfit," she added. "I knew I was rolling the dice, but I thought, who cares?"
