Ultimately, the NFL star settled the debate with a potentially controversial answer.

The cat people vs. dog people debate stems from Swift being a notorious cat lover. She loves her felines so much that she shared a Time magazine "Person of the Year" cover with her cat, Benjamin Button. Kelce, on the other hand, has been described as a golden retriever by fans and media many times. According to Rover, his last name has even become the most popular dog name.
This has fans questioning the couple's long-term compatibility. Someone pondered the idea on Tight end. Like most tight ends, he's the human incarnation of a golden retriever." Another wrote that they were losing sleep "worrying that Travis Kelce might not be a cat lover." They noted that "he looks more like a dog person" and worried that he and Swift might "be unable to work out as a result."

Kelce gave the much-anticipated answer in the Dec. 17 issue of theSkimm newsletter. He responded that he was a dog lover, but with an important caveat. “I’ve had a dog and a cat since I was a kid,” he said.
Whether this will satisfy fans remains to be seen. Swift tolerates dogs, but she prefers cats. The "Karma" singer has shown off her mom's Great Dane Kitty on her social media multiple times in the past, and in one clip, after Kitty pulled her down the stairs, she turned to the camera and said, "This is why I Like a cat.”
That said, fans’ opinions aren’t the most important thing here. Swift and Kelce can decide for themselves where they stand on cats vs. dogs (or both!). The pair's relationship seems to have been going strong since going public in September, with Swift telling Time in her "Person of the Year" feature that they had private time to connect before making headlines this time around. She explained that they started hanging out after he recounted his failed attempts to get her attention on his podcast in July.
"So we actually had a lot of time that no one knew about, which I'm grateful for because we got to get to know each other," Swift said. "When I went to the first game, we were already a couple."
She probably knew then that he was a dog lover.
