Why Daisy Kent Isn't the New Bachelorette

On the March 25 finale of "The Bachelor, " Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson finally announced their engagement, but for many viewers, it wasn't the highlight of the night. Instead, that moment arrives when the next Bachelorette is announced — and it’s a twist!

Many predicted that Daisy Kent was the favorite for the role, and her tearful, confident exit on Joey's season only bolstered that speculation. "If I can love the wrong person so much, imagine how much I can love the right person," she told the camera as she left.

Jesse Palmer offered the same advice in "The Final Rose" when he invited Daisy on stage and asked her for this line. "Are you ready to open up again, date again, and find your person?" Jesse asked.

Daisy responded that the past year had been both life-changing and difficult for her, from having a cochlear implant to competing on The Bachelor.

"I'm healthy, I'm happy, and I haven't experienced either of those things in a long time," she said. "So, now, I know it's time for me to focus on the things I love and the people I love, so now... no. I'm not ready. That's okay, I realize that for myself Very proud.”

It's a major curveball that adds to an already twisty ending.

Introducing the next bachelorette

Following Daisy's exit, Jesse Palmer invited former star Charity Lawson on stage to announce that her ex will be taking the helm for the show's 21st season this summer.

“Our next Bachelorette is a smart, witty, funny, and super kind person,” Charity said. "Personally, I want to see more of her and I can only hope that from this experience that she's about to embark on, she actually finds love, just like I did with Dotun [Olubeko]."

Charity then welcomed Jenn Tran to the stage, which was a particularly celebratory moment. She will be the first Asian American woman to host the show.

Jenn recalls feeling "trapped" by Asian representation in media growing up. She explained that being the Bachelorette provided the opportunity to be the protagonist and tell her love story. “I can’t help but think about how many people I’ve inspired and how many lives I’m changing,” she said.
