Marisol Patton's 'Real Housewives of Miami' audition was 'a mess'

Marysol Patton is a born Real Housewife, the kind of woman who wears fur coats around the house because the air conditioning keeps her Botox firming and "keeping [her ]youth". So it's a shame that after three seasons of The Real Housewives of Miami , her show was unceremoniously canceled. It looks like the party planner-turned-housewife has a lot more to give.

Then, Peacock unexpectedly revived the show in 2021, eight years after it went off the air. Patton returns as "Friends," starring alongside four other original cast members and several new faces — a cast that has remained the same even after three seasons and after the show moved back to Bravo.

RHOM 's road to success may have been a roller coaster ride, but as Patton himself admits, the series is now the best it's ever been. "As soon as it started, I was like, 'Who the hell are these new people? I love all the old songs," Patton tells Bustle. "Then I watch the show back and I'm like, 'You know what? They know what they're doing.'"

She will know. Throughout the show's two seasons, Patton remained a reliable source of brutal honesty and comedic relief. Even as a "friend," she was a key part of RHOM's most dramatic storylines, finding levity and humor in every chaos.

Over the course of the season, her friendship with fellow RHOM OG member Adriana de Moura degenerated into chaos. "That's Adriana," Patton said, rolling his eyes. "She always wants to fight with me and Alexia. She loves to cause chaos with us." Recently, Demora pointed the finger at Patton's best friend Alexia Echevarria, Speculations about her marriage. (“It’s hearsay and bullshit,” Patton says.) This comes after the Season 5 reunion, when Demora wrote Patton a letter using her liver — a sarcastic reference to “cockies” (pronounced : cocktail) love. .

"This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in my life. She was just grasping at straws to put the last straw on me. I'm still here and not going anywhere," Patton said of the letter. "So, who knows what she's going to bring next? She's already trying to kill me with her flatulence, which is a slow, deadly, tortuous way of dying."

In "Hot Seat," Patton reflects on the unfair edits she received, her unbearable expressions of contrition, and her very memorable RHOM audition.

What do you remember about the audition tape?

I was at Donatella Versace's ex-husband Paul Beck's 50th birthday dinner in New York, and I remember feeling like I was just laughing. My mother wanted to take me to the hospital. I thought, "We're going to enjoy our trip to New York." I came home and [the casting agent] kept calling my office recommending wealthy socialites in Miami to audition for the show. Most of my friends' husbands were like, "No, you're not going to do that." They wouldn't let them, and a little voice in my belly said, "You should go."

When I tried it, I was like this [ Marisole lifts her right eyelid and one side of her lip ] and my face was contorted. My mouth is watering. The scene was chaotic. But I sat there, laughing at myself. For some reason they liked that and I got the job.

Have you ever felt like you were unfairly edited?

In season two, I was arguing with [Lisa Pliner] and trying to prove my point. Then, she admitted that I was right, and [the show] cut that out. I called [the producer], "You need to put it back because I'm not going to look like a liar and a scumbag when she admits that I said exactly what I said."

Have you ever had an embarrassing hot mic moment?

I do not remember. We used to go to the bathroom and unplug the microphone, but you can't do that anymore because you'll ruin it. Or we would talk in Spanish, but now they have a translator. There is no escaping this anymore.

Who do you think had the worst confessional appearance?

Adriana has an odd appearance. I can't stand everyone wearing gloves. Look, I'm not a talker. I appeared looking like a bird, with clawed fingers and feathers. That one is bad.

What's your favorite Bravo one-liner?

I like what Luann [de Lesseps] said: "Calm down. Don't act uncool." That's basically how I feel about everything.

What do you think is the best brand of alcohol run by housewives?

I've only had Luann's Fosé, but it didn't have any alcohol in it, so...it wasn't for me.

What are your thoughts on the promotion of full-time housewives?

I want that salary. I get the same amount of airtime, but you'll see the difference in salary. The real question is, "Marisole, if they offered you more money, would you say yes?" I don't think anyone would say no.
