Selena Gomez hints at retirement from music

Selena Gomez's next album may be her last. During a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast, the singer and actress said she will only release "one album" before focusing on acting and other ventures full-time.

In an interview with hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, Gomez opened up about her passion for acting and singing, making it clear that one of her jobs always comes first considerate. "I do feel like I still have an album, but I might choose to perform," she said.

Why Gomez chose acting

After the host pointed out that she doesn't have to pick a lane, Gomez revealed that just picking one lane is how she settles down. "You're right, but I want to calm down because I'm tired," she said. "I wanted to be an actor, I never really planned to be a full-time singer, but obviously that hobby turned into something else."

She went on to explain how her time on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place led her to get involved in the world of music. “I started having a lot of fun with music, and then touring was really fun,” she said. "I was working on my TV show at the same time and I found it really interesting, so I just kept doing it."

However, her attitude changed after she felt overworked and her mental health suffered during the 2016 revival tour, leading to her canceling the final leg. “The older I got, the more I wanted to find something to settle down in,” she said. "I went to a mental hospital and canceled a trip. That was important to me because I like working and it distracts me from the bad things."

Despite this, Gomez has no regrets about her music career and continues to enjoy aspects of it. "I don't think I'm the best singer, but I do know how to tell a story, and I love writing songs," she added.

Luckily, “another album” is coming soon. Back in August, Gomez gave fans a taste of her next era with a new breakup song, "Single Soon." In an interview with SiriusXM, she talked about her next album, saying it "doesn't have a sad song."

"I think even the most popular songs can be emotionally charged," she said at the time.

"I want people to see that, but I really don't feel like I have the ability to write something negative. It just doesn't match where I am anymore. I live in the world of sad girl music. I love that, I’ll always write music like this, but I just feel like this album shouldn’t be like that.”
