Glen Powell Says No to New 'Jurassic World' In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter , the actor says the 1993 original Jurassic Park is one of his "favorite movies," but that wasn't enough to convince him to star in the upcoming Jurassic sequel.
"It's one of the things I've wanted to do my whole life," Powell said, revealing that he made the decision after reading the new "Jurassic World" script. "I wouldn't have done that movie because I read the script and I immediately thought, my presence in this movie is not going to help."
"The script is great," the Twisters star clarified. "This movie kills people. It's not about that. It's about choosing what makes the audience happy and what makes you happy."
Powell is the only major star to turn down a 30-year franchise. Jennifer Lawrence was also reportedly approached to star in the film, but she reportedly turned it down.
Jurassic World Sequel
The next installment of "Jurassic World" has been confirmed to be developed in January 2024, and will be written by David Koepp, the screenwriter of the first two "Jurassic Park" movies. The film will also be directed by Gareth Edwards and will be released in summer 2025.
According to Deadline in April 2024, Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey has been confirmed to star in the film, and Scarlett Johansson is also in talks to star. Bailey later confirmed his role in Jurassic World on The Tonight Show .
"I mean, it was exciting and it was great. I remember going to see Jurassic Park with my family," he said. "This is history, this is John Williams' score. This is [Steven] Spielberg. I've had a nightmare for thirty years, and now my nightmare has come true."
The upcoming film follows the series' original trilogy (1993's "Jurassic Park ," 1997's "The Lost World " and 2001's "Jurassic Park III" ) and the second installment in the series. trilogy (2015's Jurassic World , 2018's Fallen Kingdom , and 2022's Dominion ).
