More than two decades after its premiere, Bring It On remains sexy, cute, and popular enough that fans are still asking for another movie. On April 2, star Kirsten Dunst said she might do another Bring It On movie — albeit with one condition.
Dunst was asked during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of her new film "Civil War" about the possibility of a revival of the hit cheerleading movie. "I mean, it depends," she said. “Everyone’s bringing back their own stuff, right?”
The actor admitted that fans of the 2000 film want "a little throwback" and said she would consider it "as long as it's not embarrassing."
While Bring It On spawned six spin-off movies, none saw the original cast return, meaning a true sequel was never made. Instead, each movie features new actors leading a different cheerleading squad and competing, with 2006's Bring It On: All Or Nothing starring Solange Knowles and Hayden Panettiere, and 2009's Bring It On: All Or Nothing starring Solange Knowles and Hayden Panettiere. It On: Fight to the Finish" starring Christina Milian.
Dunst isn't the only one who will be on board. Her co-star Gabrielle Union has long expressed interest in making a Bring It On sequel. "It's definitely going to happen," she told James Corden in 2020. "We're all obsessed with Cheer on Netflix, and it's rekindled our love for cheerleading. We kind of want to see where these guys are in 20 years." "
Union also told The Economic Times in January 2023 that a movie based on her character Isis Cheerleader might be in the works. "We've been developing a sequel centered around [Clover]," she said.
Director Peyton Reed told The Economic Times next month that a sequel "may happen" and revealed that he has been working with Dunst, Union and screenwriter Jessica on the film since the film's 20th anniversary in 2020. Bendinger discusses sequel.
"We've been thinking about this. What if there was a sequel with the entire original cast?" he wondered. "Obviously, 20 years from now, we're going to look at this movie in a completely different direction. Gabriel not only has ideas, but great ideas. So, I hope we can continue to talk about that."
