Dakota Johnson loves lying to the media: 'It's the funniest'

Dakota Johnson's press conference comments often go viral, but not all of them are true. In a new interview with Bustle, the actor admits that she likes to add hyperbole to her interviews, calling it " the funniest."

"Sometimes, when you're in a ridiculous situation, you have to be ridiculous," she said.

In fact, Johnson has been exposed for lies before. During an Architectural Digest home tour in March 2020, she proudly proclaimed her love of limes, which sat on a tray in her kitchen. "I love limes!" she said. "I love them, they're great. I love them so much and I love displaying them like this in my home."

The quote instantly went viral because of the emphasis she placed on limes. But during a 2021 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , Johnson admitted she was just joking and didn't realize Lime existed until the cameras started rolling. “When I visited, I walked into the kitchen and the condiments were already there,” she explains. "I'm actually allergic to limes."

Naturally, the Internet felt betrayed but also embraced the chaos. While hosting "Saturday Night Live" in January, Johnson poked fun at the incident when a large bowl of limes was found outside the dressing room during a promo. "Oh, love the limes," she joked.

Johnson spoke to Bustle about exaggeration in interviews and how her quotes are often misunderstood. "I know I exaggerated in this interview and you can tell I'm exaggerating because you see my face," she said. "It would be difficult to write it down."

However, she sometimes gets uneasy when her exaggerated statements get out of control, such as when people in her social circle think she sleeps 14 hours a day.

"I had a funny little argument with someone," she said. "Everyone in the world was talking about my sleep schedule, and I was really annoyed, and one guy I knew was like, 'But are you really sleeping 14 hours a night? That's great.' I was like, ' Did you read this article or just read the damn title? 'I bit her head off.'
